Set against the striking backdrop of a crumbling small town in Southeastern Turkey, Hüzün is a meditation of brotherhood following five real-life best friends as they liberate themselves from the banals of the every day by seeking their own pleasure-induced fun. Part staged, part documentary, the camera follows their reaction and movements to the beat which displays a powerful testament to music. Together, their joie de vivre allows them to get lost in a frenetic trance.

The Copenhagan-based DJ, producer  and founder of SWANA-focused club night Bukhar follows a prolific run of EPs in 2022 with two more cuts that blend propulsive club beats with percussion inspired by his Kurdish heritage. ‘QAAR A’ peppers its driving, four-to-the-floor techno beat with finger cymbals, darbuka drumming, mizmar-like melodic samples and vocal chops.

Mastered by Danish techno producer and Kulør-affiliate, Sugar, both tracks on ‘QAAR’ boast an irresistibly revved-up velocity. It’s no wonder the EP’s artwork takes visual cues from the drift-driving community in Amman, Jordan.

Speaking about the significance of incorporating Kurdish instrumentation into his music, Muskila says: “Kurds currently live under a tremendous amount of pressure. My aim with my music is to create more awareness around the Kurdish struggle for independence.

This one was recorded with one hell of a mijwiz player, Mustafa Al-Ba’lawi (Ramtha). I originally wanted to make a danceable tune out of the recordings with Mustafa, but decided to let the mijwiz do it’s work on this one. Mustafa has played with the Al Aksi band around Jordan, mostly at weddings. The mijwiz is a double piped flute mostly used in Syria, Jordan and Palestine and is in “family” with the Argoul pipe used further south and the Zurna used further north from Jordan.

The Copenhagen-based artist Muskila is set to release his new EP, "OK, Fatma," on the 4th of March. The EP takes the listener through emotive club music, incorporating North Kurdish timbres and delving into the realms of bassy dubs. Muskila originally had an EP ready in October last year but decided to delete all tracks and write something completely different that was relevant to the world as he experienced it. The EP was written between October and December 2023 and is a product of how the artist sees the world changing. The visuals for the music portray a contemporary dancer, embodying the concept of being stuck, either physically or mentally.

Furthermore, the EP has 2 remixes and 1 collaborative song. The 1st one from Siu Mata, who has made a name for himself on the club scene with his versatility and genre-bending productions. The 2nd remix is from the Nyege Nyege affiliated artist, DJ Travella, who is responsible for the most exhilarating music of recent years, injecting crackling cybernetic energy into singeli in a semi-improvisational style. Lastly the collaborative song is made with, HEDO HYDR8, an artist who emerges from the rave-rich grounds of Denmark to create immersive, transcendental musical experiences.

Copenhagen-born with roots in North-Kurdistan. Muskila's style encompasses high-energy rhythms that draw inspiration from genres such as contemporary club music over over north-kurdish timbres. Beyond his musical endeavors, Muskila is actively involved in promoting inclusivity within the club and arts scene, co-founding the platform, Bukhar, and contributing to Fragment Radio, a platform dedicated to amplifying BIPOC voices.
