Energy Fields is Gus Paterson’s vinyl debut. One of the brains behind Bokhari Records, this four tracker melts disco, italo and house into a creamy funk fondue. Staggered bleeps and crisp percussion introduce the title piece, samples echo as a squelching thick bassline drops. Countering the fudgey strings are sparkling synthlines, bold brassy analogue bursts tethering the track to the floor. Although tempos drop for “Emotive Feel,” the energy remains high. Robust keys are further fortified by blasts from vintage machines, a free flowing groove lifted into astral jazz. Sharp beats open the flip for “Cyborg Dateline.” Soon, Paterson’s melodic skill takes over. Layers of inspiration are held together by ambling notes. Echoes of cosmic and disco are adopted, a contemporary twist delivered through the complex intertwining of elements. Paterson takes us into the stratosphere for the finale. “Jetpack Joyride” maintains the rhythm of its predecessor, pouring on the funk through daring piano lines and rich strings of double bass. A trip into the beyond from this debutant.

There is a unique eerie vibe that you can only find in the post-industrial city of La Louvière, yet it’s the playground of the Portuguese-Italian DJ and producer Vhyce.

Known for his tracks to create subtle tension and tell stories with no or sparse vocals, Vhyce has developed his trademark cosmic sound over a string of releases on forward thinking labels such as AEON, Pets, Correspondant without forgetting his own new label Saint Vaast Recordings - named after his city neighborhood.

His music is supported by the likes of Peggy Gou, Keinemusik, Gerd Janson, Jennifer Cardini or Dixon and played at Coachella, BBC Radio 1, NTS, Rinse FM and The Lot. Lately he’s been touring in Europe and South Africa as a DJ as well as maintaining his Belgium national radio TIPIK residency.

The Darker Side of Disco - Episode 9

Matthias Vogt is a German musician, DJ, and producer whose work seamlessly bridges jazz sophistication with electronic innovation. Born in Rüsselsheim in 1970, Vogt trained as a jazz pianist before venturing into club culture, eventually co-founding the deep house duo Motorcitysoul and the jazz collective [re:jazz]. Over three decades, he has become a versatile force-releasing music that spans deep house, ambient, IDM, and broken beat, always infused with his improvisational touch and love for organic sound.

His solo career has flourished with standout projects like Polytonality (Polytone), the politically charged Pianissimo (Infracom!), and Ten As One (Reflections/Anjunadeep), featuring collaborators such as Hans Berg, Johanna Klein, and Sato. In 2025, his Lost EP on Moodmusic showcased both soulful vocal work with Fola Dada and nods to his Frankfurt club roots.

A regular at iconic venues from Cocoon Club to Tresor and Blue Note Tokyo, Vogt has toured extensively across Europe, Asia, Australia, and the Americas. Whether performing live with a band or behind the decks, his sets and productions carry an unmistakable warmth-rooted in musicality, informed by jazz discipline, and driven by a curiosity that refuses to be confined by genre.

Vogt’s enduring appeal lies in his ability to create music that feels timeless yet current, sophisticated yet dance-floor ready-a rare balance that continues to inspire listeners worldwide.
