The Magic Movement is excited to present the second remix EP of Noema’s album ONE (PART II). This EP features four outstanding remixes by Kelpe, M. Rux, Hear & Now and Nicola Noir, blending downtempo, experimental electronic, House, and Balearic Beat, that will transport you to otherworldly realms. 

Kelpe delivers a dynamic new remix, an uplifting electronica jam infused with cut-up instruments, woozy electronics, and funky beats. M. Rux takes us on an exploratory journey with a strong 4/4 Bass Drum and cut-up bits and pieces of symphonic instruments. Hear & Now’s remix turns the original into a dreamy Balearic Disco jam adding electric guitars and uplifting synths to the mix. The EP concludes with Nicola Noir's remix, who turns ONE into an epic and highly emotional up-tempo House chugger.. 

With 'ONE' Noema has created an impressive cosmos: He has written and recorded the music with a small orchestra, but also created the story, texts, costumes, graphics, videos, choreography, and showed an early experimental version at Garbicz Festival 2022. In ONE, Noema tells the story of his space explorations, in which he manifests as four Interdimensional Space Voyagers. Because humanity has lost their ability to play and connect with each other, these entities became trapped in our dimension and now put on performances to re-power their portal, so that we can all be interdimensional again! During the performance five dancers invite up to 120 people from the audience to join the action. DJing since 1997, and being former resident DJ in the legendary Berlin Club institution Wilde Renate for a decade, Noema has been touring the world with his eclectic and stunning DJ sets just as long. His extended sets go up to 10 hours and are indeed the stuff of legends. In his studio work, he has collaborated with electronic music heavy weights like Apparat, Dj Dixon and Grammy winners Basement Jaxx.

We’re more than happy to present the first remix of Noema's upcoming Album ‘One’!

This album is part of an „Interactive Performance Installation“ that consists of music, an interactive choreography and stage design, theater, costumes and remixes. During the performance five actors invite up to 120 people from the audience to join the action. Sun Ra meets Steve Reich meets Larry Levan, imagine it like a happening from the 70s.

In this Gesamtkunstwerk Noema created a funky and absurd universe that tells the story of his interdimensional space explorations, in which he manifests in four different entities. Because of the energetic state of humanity they got stuck in our dimension and now do performances to re-power their portal, so we can all be interdimensional again! The performance was premiered as the closing act of Garbicz Festival 2022.

Simply put, the form of Noema's original music „One“ is loosely based on the minimal music classic „In C“ by Terry Riley and consists of 56 melodic patterns, which are repeated and consecutively played from the first to the last. Every player can move on to the next pattern at their own pace. The piece is about 45 minutes long without a break.

The first Remix comes by no other than our favorite German Discotizer, Lauer, who in the past remixed music by iconic artists such as Sven Väth, Pet Shop Boys or Falco. Lauer's Remix of „One“ is a hypnotic leftfield Disco tune, featuring a bubbly arpeggio synth, live drums and a catchy melody!

Shubostar
Hailing from South Korea, Shubostar has been immersing herself in the evolving underground scene of South Korea and Thailand and now in Mexico. Her music can be defined as “Cosmic Disco” – a base of disco combined with techno elements. In 2018, She decided to launch her own label ‘uju Records’ with Korean painter Daryung Kim, inviting her favorite artists in the genre. Shubostar was recently featured on the cover of Mixmag Brazil and was one of eight artists selected as DJ Mag’s One To Watch in 2023.

As the founder of The Magic Movement, Noema is a pioneer in the electronic and downtempo music scene in Europe. We’re excited to announce Mehmet Aslan as the fourth artist to remix Noema's recently released album, ONE. Mehmet Aslan’s remix is filled with rhythmic textures, playful melodies, and funky electro breakbeats. 

In a world of crate diggers, willfully eclectic selectors and micro-scene experts, few DJs and producers maintain the curiosity, bulletproof taste and unique identity of Mehmet Aslan. Born to Turkish immigrant parents and raised in Basel, Switzerland, a childhood absorbing Turkish music was only the beginning of an esoteric trip down a rabbit hole of fascinating, often unusual music, enrapturing dancefloors with his own record collection alongside his own, equally varied productions.

Join JOIX for a free listening party to celebrate "Der Krieg soll enden" (eng: "The war should stop") EP. Come along to listen to the music with the artist and chat about the making of the EP.
It was very early in the morning when JOIX awaked from a dream where the following german words came to his mind together with some unwritten song structures: "Der Krieg soll enden und das möglichst bald. Für den Frieden und dessen Erhalt." (eng: "The war should end as soon as possible. For peace and its preservation.").
It seemed very important at this moment, so he immediately stood up and noticed these two sentences on a piece of paper in his studio. After going to bed again and waking up later, reading these words once more with a rational mind he was not so convinced of its meaning any more and doubts came up if it would be really a good idea to use this for the next music production. At daylight and with sober mind it seems a bit childish and naive.
But finally the power of the dream was stronger and so you can listen here to the result as first track of this EP "Der Krieg soll enden".
Second track "Born after sunset" is a floating Deep Techno track with hypnotic basses and layered melodic chords which culminate in an emotional break and a deep melodic second part of this track.
Third, "Spinnrad am Brunnenrand" (eng: "Spinning wheel at well edge") is an innuendo to the fairy tale "Frau Holle" and comes up with an enraptured atmosphere which lets you fall down to another world at the wells ground.
4th, the Remix of "Spinnrad am Brunnenrand" by new upcoming Deep Techno Producer Felix Kowalski from Heidelberg rounds off this EP with a nice interpretation of the Original.

In an unusual collaboration between a Brazilian artist and a Chinese label, Numa Gama returns with a left-field take on her music-making, A Spectral Turn. Inspired by Derrida’s Hauntology, and the post-capitalist instigations of Anna Tsing, she weaves an eerie and cold subtropical soundscape that explores themes of freedom and imagination amidst the ghosts that inhabit today’s world.

Each track here unfolds like a vignette, as translucent synth lines float independently, accompanied by abstract sounds and glitches. This amalgamation creates a rational yet cozy stream of consciousness, guiding the listener through the haunted corridors of the memories of the past, ideas of the present, and miscarriages of the future. To summon these ideas, Numa Gama draws a parallel between negotiating political change and making kin with her own creative desires.

Rather than providing nostalgic sensations or futuristic insights, A Spectral Turn acknowledges that history ends at every moment, and gives way to new beginnings, swarming with ghosts.

A peppery smorgasbord of industrial rhythms, razor-sharp stabs and provocative vocals, 'Deathwork' is Brixton-based Kamixlo's strongest statement yet, sandwiching earworm-laced pop between refried layers of euphoric back-room ambience and visceral hard dance distortion. It's been four years since Kamixlo poured his heart out on his acclaimed debut album 'Cicatriz', and he's been experimenting incessantly since then, figuring out how to integrate bold, memorable hooks into his signature alloy of burnished synths and mangled samples. And if its predecessor represented catharsis after a discomfiting period of loss, 'Deathwork' finds Kamixlo's emotional load lightened, freeing him to survey and tighten his formula by traversing club music's most eccentric, genre-agnostic fringes.

The young DJ and producer cut his teeth in the early 2010s, forming the iconic Bala Club party and label before deploying a series of EPs that accurately captured the era's voracious zeitgeist. Muddling references to nu-metal and emo classics with nervy dembow and bass deconstructions and dissociated SoundCloud rap thuds, Kamixlo characterized a new type of inclusive artist, unprejudiced by preconceptions of the underground or mainstream. 'Deathwork' builds on this legacy and widens his outlook substantially, urging listeners to step towards the dancefloor no matter how they might engage with music. And for the first time, Kamixlo seamlessly amalgamates his delirious bass-heavy atmospheres and kinetic beats with vocals, incorporating compelling performances from reggaetón sensation Isabella Lovestory, avant-pop outsider Puzzle, and Drain Gang's infamous Bladee. There's even an appearance from Berlin's Mechatok, who shows out with a production assist on the album's syrupy closing track 'Insect'.

From the ecstatic opening breaths of 'Ketamine Fields', it's clear that Kamixlo's in a fresh headspace. Weightless angelic voices curve gracefully around overdriven rave-ready bass twangs, while muffled, blown-out drums echo somewhere in the distance. It's the perfect pre-game to an endless, messy night, leaving Isabella Lovestory to lurch towards the mass of sweaty bodies on 'Pitch Black', rhyming sensually over Kamixlo's provocative metallic plucks and slow-motion dembow pulse. And by 'Combe', the peak time energy is palpable, with carnivalesque percussion and eardrum-popping high pitched squeals that grind against the pummeling gabber kicks. Puzzle brings the album back down to earth on 'Chaos', casually free associating and providing a light-hearted counter to the fog of machine crunches and deranged laughter.

On 'One More Night At The Line', Kamixlo carves the house blueprint into a neurotic chatter of helium voices and cocky slams, and when Bladee arrives in a wisp of smoke on 'Death Forever', the noise has calmed a little. Here, Kamixlo flexes his most exploratory muscles, nesting Bladee's grungy voice in an erratic tangle of muted, almost pacifying, black metal screams and nursery rhyme chimes. It's a paradox that perfectly encapsulates the scope of 'Deathwork', an album that continually flips expectations, turning in on itself and questioning its own logic without ever losing its momentum.

Renowned electronic music producer Kelpe has crafted a dynamic new remix of Noema’s album ‘ONE’, delivering an uplifting electronica jam infused with cut-up instruments, woozy electronics, and funky beats. With 10 albums and numerous EPs under his belt, Kelpe has earned international acclaim for his innovative approach to sound design, praised by leading music journalists and supported by a dedicated fan base across Europe. His work spans a range of electronic genres, always pushing creative boundaries.
David Benjamin (Noema, Magic Jams) is a DJ, producer, guitarist, and label head from Berlin.
He has released and worked with Apparat, Dj Dixon, and Basement Jaxx as well as underground heroes Lauer, Kalabrese, Shubostar, O/Y, Acid Pauli, Auntie Flo, Dreems, Khidja, Panthera Krause and Mehmet Aslan.
In over 25 years of DJing, he has mastered the ones and twos refining his craft during his 10-year residency at Berlin institution Wilde Renate. While Noema focuses on contemporary electronica and leans towards the psychedelic, Magic Jams has a more acoustic sound inspired by dusty crate digging, the African diaspora, cosmic disco, and Balearic beats.
David also runs the Magic Movement label and has released music by artists Nicola Cruz, Axel Boman, Dengue Dengue Dengue, Xique-Xique, and Eddie C.
Kelpe’s remix breathes new life into Noema’s original vision and will be available on all major platforms soon.

With 'ONE' Noema has created an impressive cosmos: He has written and recorded the music with a small orchestra, but also created the story, texts, costumes, graphics, videos, choreography, and showed an early experimental version at Garbicz Festival 2022.
 
In ONE, Noema tells the story of his space explorations, in which he manifests as four Interdimensional Space Voyagers. Because humanity has lost their ability to play and connect with each other, these entities became trapped in our dimension and now put on performances to re-power their portal, so that we can all be interdimensional again! During the performance five dancers invite up to 120 people from the audience to join the action.

DC Promo Tracks: Noema "ONE" (Hear & Now Remix)

Seems like such a paradox to be asked to make a mix for a show called 'Midnight in a Perfect World' (named after a DJ Shadow track) exactly at a time where the world is flaunting all its imperfections. My mix aired at midnight on 20.01.2017 on KEXP 90.3 FM in Seattle, just hours after Mr Trump entered office with his right hand in the air.    
So there aren't any dance tunes on this, coz I just didn't feel like dancing, instead I put together tunes from artists I love and who help me live in another world for just a sec and inspire me to deal with this one.
