Ultramajic goes for the jugular with the second chapter of its Metaphysix series after Aden and Creepy Autograph's first installment won over many new hearts in 2013 (particularly with the much-buzzed about "Whip") while keeping existing acolytes very happy.

Inspired in equal parts by legends of early Detroit music and arcane philosophical-religious concepts, these are savage drum tracks slimmed down to their meanest and leanest states - dance music at an elemental level, pure rhythmic bliss that would do past drum machine wizards like Plastikman very proud while sitting nicely alongside modern operations like Night Slugs' Club Constructions series. It's no surprise, then, that Night Slugs co-founder L-Vis 1990 makes an appearance here under his Dance System alias with the rugged "RZ1", effortlessly bridging the gap between forward UK styles and vintage Detroit soul. Matrixxman steps up to the plate in a big way with the hard drum rolls of "Simulation" and two different incarnations of the jacking, rimshot-crazy "Stop It". Creepy Autograph is back for his second appearance in the Metaphysix series with a ferocious remix of "Simulation" while Lando (formerly Lando Kal) rounds things out with "Loveplay", adding soulful vox and bouncing synths to the machinelike motif.

All in all this a lethal set of no-frills, drum machine-inspired workouts that demonstrate the "less is more" maxim with sterling results, revealing each artist to be a virtuoso of rhythm and Edgar to be a consummate curator. Complete with magickal cover art by Jimmy Edgar and Pilar Zeta reportedly made while traveling in Egypt, there is indeed much magic to be mesmerized by here.

Ackerman's debut EP on Play Pal opens with the high-octane title track, "More & Faster"—a dynamic mix of mid-paced percussion, syncopated arpeggios, robotic vocals, and sharp snares.
Next up is "Time Machine," a moody, synth-driven track that offers psychedelic dark grooves, punctuated by stuttering vocals and 303s.
Meanwhile, "Can We Rewind Time" stomps forward with a heavy bassline and pulsating sound waves, building to a fiery climax.
Adding depth to the release are label friends and frequent Play Pal contributors Mufti, Leonor and TYU, each bringing their unique stamps to the originals.
Mufti’s rework of "More & Faster" strips back the original, retaining the hypnotic mantra, while adding new layered synth lines that heighten the tension throughout the track.
Leonor’s darker take on "Time Machine" introduces a menacing funk, complete with a tempo-slowing breakdown before the latin vocal (a personal addition of his), kicks back in with force.
TYU rounds off Ackerman's kinetic collection with his signature blend of percussive acid bubbling, congas, and 303s, delivering an electrifying finish to the EP.

Canada’s dub maestro Deadbeat makes a welcome return to Echocord to round out the year with his ‘Pressure Double Down’ EP, comprised of three original cuts.
Adopted Montrealer, Scott Montieth aka Deadbeat has been at the forefront of dub tinged Techno and Minimal leaning sounds since the turn of the millennium, racking up albums on the beloved Pole helmed ~scape in the early 2000’s before going on to
run his own label BLKRTZ where he regularly release material, as well as further releases on imprints such as Wagon Repair and of course Echocord, where he returns here with his latest collection of works.
‘Too Much Pressure’ leads the EP, a fifteen minute excursion through intricate percussion, choppy, dubbed out stab sequences and psychedelic vocals all infused with Deadbeat’s signature subtly unfurling flair and nuanced dynamism.
‘Double Bubble’ follows and lays down an amalgamation of delicately intertwined chord melodies, sub bass tones spiralling echoes and a crunchy analogue rhythm section. ‘Rattle The Roof Down’ then concludes the EP on a more minimal tinged tip, bringing a heavy low-end dub reggae bass groove to the front while spacey
percussive delays and murky swells ebb and flow throughout the hypnotic groove.

VOSK, meaning wax in the Russian language, is the brainchild of Andrey Ter-Grigorian
who is now launching the label with an EP under his own alias, Mawn Lower. The EP
explores themes of emerging from a concealed, invisible state and being “caught” in action
so to speak and saying “Yeah, I’m here, I’m doing this thing”. The cover photo was shot on
Jackson Street Bridge in Atlanta, a very popular touristic spot. It’s symbolic in that Mawn
Lower’s current home, Atlanta, is of the of the most monitored cities in America with
60,864 cameras for 490,270 people. A couple of the tracks date back at least 10 years and
some more recent, all were made with a combination of Ableton and hardware gear like
the SH-101, MPC, a Casio FZ–10M sampler and some outboard FX.
A1 ‘Dusty’ perfectly sets the tone as Mawn Lower lays down a crisp saturated rhythm
section alongside sweeping filtered pads, bright stab sequences and choppy vocals.
Following is ‘Fair Fight’ which then leans into dub territory courtesy of more reduced
drums, spiralling echoes and subtly unfurling atmospherics.
Opening the flip side is ‘Fine Print’, an ethereal slice of deep house fuelled by processed
vocal loops, airy Rhodes melodies and swinging percussion. ‘Cleansing Lounge’ then
rounds out the release and once again shifts sonically towards off-kilter 808 drums,
dreamy textures and squelchy acid bass.

PREMIERE : Casta - Disco Techno (Kyma Komplex)

All those spirits, those walks of life, all those sound journeys between worlds, between continents. Australian duo KXB is back at R.i.O., bringing a follow up to their first record “Areas of Uncertainty”, released in 2023. This time an exquisite collab. With filmmaker and vocalist Thrush, member of the feverish band Concentration. The duo from Melbourne, and the singer from Berlin bring a collection of tracks, dubs and versions - written and produced over the last two years with the tape format in mind. Inspired by fabled underground cassette labels like New Zealand-based late 1980ees/ early 1990ees sensation Xpressway and mixed continuously as a nod to 90s jungle bootleg mixtapes like the Yaman tapes by LTJ Bukem, DJ Hype, Randall, or Peshay. Distinctive vocalist Thrush travelled South, and spent two sweltering afternoons with KXB in Melbourne, doing free-spirited improvisations in the studio, that were later pieced together into the resulting album. 13 variations in sound, in which Thrush's lyrics explore chasmic spaces and energies common to both Germany and Australia. Her voice dances partly on trip hopping rhythms and indie-tronics, while technoid vibes, alternative house zones, and vivid trips into kosmische top the collaboration off. A piece of art formed by a clique of like-minded souls – gathered their walks of life between worlds into explorer music of unexplored districts.

Sascha Rydell returns to his own co-founded Colorcode Records this March with the ‘Acid n Rollin’ EP, featuring a remix from label partner, Roman Lindau.
Colorcode is as label based in Berlin run by former Fachwerk members Roman Lindau, Sascha Rydell and Monomood, started in 2019. The Label reflects the eclecticism of the artists own backgrounds. It's all about electronic music, art and the purpose to entertain people on the floor or in their very own listening environment. To express the extensive ideas and not be limited to a specific genre. Here we see two members taking the reins for the ‘Acid n Rollin’ EP with three fresh original cuts from Rydell and a remix from Lindau.
Up first on the package is ‘Come On’, frenzied acid-laced dance floor jam fuelled by squelchy synth lines, a robust rhythm section and vocal chant uttering the track’s title. Roman Lindau follows next to rework ‘Come On’, extracting fragments from the acid-tinged aesthetic of the original while stirring in his own raw, reduced rhythmic style and dynamically evolving construction.
Title-cut ‘Acid n Rollin’ follows, aptly titled the five and a half minute composition draws on gritty 303 licks, thunderous drums and cinematic chords. Lastly to conclude the package ‘Another Word’ lays down loopy, oscillating synth leads alongside a gritty drum machine workout.
