The Dope Tones label is particularly proud to present the young band ANGLES MORTS ! Coming from the new jazz scene in Marseilles, this quartet is a newcomer to the French Brokenbeat & Jazz music scene.

The Angles Morts project was born in the summer of 2020. It was at this time that the four musicians, Raph, sam, paul, jeremie decided to express their taste for mixing the magnetic sound of 70's jazz fusion with British electronic music from the turn of the century.

After releasing their first single 'A + D' (accompanied by 2 remixes by Pablo Valentino and Attica One) which marked their breakthrough into the Future Jazz/Brokenbeat scene and which was supported by the leaders of this scene, such as Shy One, Bruk Rogers, Quiet Dawn, Pat Steele, Don Pascal, Dj ALia, Daz i Kue, Alex Dinham and many more, they are back this fall with an Ep of 5 original tracks !

This new Ep, eponymously entitled 'Angles Morts Ep', proves that they're firmly rooted in the new jazz scene, which isn't afraid to go beyond its borders and take on house, brokenbeat and even jungle music!

In prehistoric Japanese folklore “Amanojaku” is the name given to a demon-like creature. This creature is usually depicted as a kind of small troll-like demon (known as an “oni”) who was thought to be able to provoke a person's darkest desires, instigating them into perpetrating wicked deeds. A “twisted person”. Sometimes used to describe a being with an extremely contrary nature, someone that if ordered something, would do the opposite. This might be a strange introduction but might be the best way to set a discussion about our friend Hoshina Anniversary and his new introspective album “Leave Behind” from where the tracks “Amanojaku (天邪鬼)” and “Landscape (風景)” are lifted. Not that we would ever think of Hoshina as a small troll demon, but to say he is an artist not unaccustomed to doing the opposite of what is expected, then a fitting description indeed. 
“Leave Behind” is an electronic album created mostly using non-electronic instruments, featuring Hoshina’s vocals and socially noncompliant lyrical styling. Inspired by Steely Dan and Weather Report, “Amanojaku (天邪鬼)” is a song described in Hoshina’s own words “created with a rather strange chord progression”. A song he says is about the crisis in social networking, which is no doubt a location where one finds many a “twisted person”. Quote the lyrics: “If you tell me Yes, Then I’ll tell you No. It’s a boring communication. Desire for recognition. You are always right. I’m always wrong”. Words spoken by someone who if ordered to do something, would not be unlikely to do the opposite. But what other choice would you make when finding yourself tied into knots by the endless scroll of social activity. Regardless, “Amanojaku (天邪鬼)” is a total vibe of a tune.

On the opposite end, “Landscape (風景)” is a song described by Hoshina as “About death, and when I wrote about death in relation to the landscape, I felt a sense of selflessness”. It’s a tune that wouldn't find itself out of place on an album by synth maestro’s AIR and which contains as much gravity as I think the French legends ever did. Quote the lyrics: “I thought I was obsessed with so many things. I feel myself becoming numb. Our own joys and sorrows seem to have nothing to do with the landscape that is spread out here.” A beautiful sentiment and fitting taste of what’s to come on “Leave Behind”.

Hoshina Anniversary - Landscape (風景)

Off the back of their long-standing radio show and guest mix series, Tiella Sound launched in 2023 with a self-titled LP from Perugian artist VAISA, setting the scene perfectly with its lo-fi maelstrom of field recordings, obscure rhythms and tribal textures. Livio Improta follows suit with ‘Fondamentalismi’, a 10-track exploration of broken, slow-motion rhythms coated in vinyl crackle and layers of atmospheric dust.

Livio Improta has landed on Bosconi Records and Rawax, had his tunes included on Fabric 71 mixed by Cassy, and explored ethnomusicology and experimentation under the name Baldovino. From Neapolitan wave to world music, Italo-disco to house, disco and funk, his sound is rich, unpredictable and varied, as he proves here with ‘Fondamentalismi’.

Another superb album that announces Tiella Sound as a vital new label.

Through a diverse roster of labels such as Moment Cinetique, Letters To Nina, Kolour Recordings just to name a few and a sound that manage to fuse house and broken beat and with soul, Tree Threes is becoming a a force to be reckoned with.
His debut EP for Omena is another fine example of his talent in brining influences from both house and broken beat with a healthy dose of soul. All four tracks on Find Love & Boogie are made by someone that clearly loves music.

Bosconi Records Presents Datafreq's Electrifying EP: "Circuit Garden"

Toronto's electronic music scene luminary, Dave Rout, known as Datafreq, is set to unveil his EP titled "Circuit Garden" on Bosconi Records. 
With a musical journey as Datafreq spanning 2 decades, and a continuous presence since the mid-80s, 
he has become a cornerstone in the electronic music scene in Toronto.

"Circuit Garden" is a six-track collection that pays homage to Datafreq's distinctive blend of video game music and electro sounds. A true sonic pioneer, he brings forth his unique musicality that has resonated since he started the project in 2004.

This EP features select tracks from his debut album, "Fun for the Whole Family," originally released in 2006 on the esteemed Berlin label Das Drehmoment. 
Notably, these tracks, (never before available on vinyl with the exception of "Just Like 1981"), 
have been reimagined with slight remixing, editing, and remastering to seamlessly align with the vinyl format. 

Two brand-new tracks make their debut on this release, adding an extra layer of exclusivity and elevating the EP to a truly special status.

The unmistakable "Datafreq" sound is prevalent throughout the EP, characterized by eclectic electro techno and vocodered tunes. 

Infused with a melodic approach, the tracks remain dancefloor-friendly, showcasing Datafreq's exceptional talent for crafting engaging melodies. 

The EP is adorned with cosmic arpeggios and space synthesizers, reflecting his prowess in creating immersive sonic landscapes.

"Circuit Garden" not only celebrates Datafreq's enduring legacy but also signifies a new chapter in his sonic exploration, inviting listeners to immerse themselves in Bosconi Records' consistently precise and insightful musical universe.
