The Stroppies - Holes in Everything

Sébastien plays soprano, tenor and C-melody saxophones. He got started with improvisation through workshops with musicians coming from contemporary jazz or improvised music.
Interested in perceptive phenomenons, he works mainly with sound as a material, describing himself as a “sound crafter”. His interests also extends to body and space, as he regularly confronts his practice to contemporary dance, soundart, through collaborations mainly with photographer Diane Martinot and music and technology, through the use of programming language Supercollider. Based in Leipzig, Germany since 2015, he is an active member of the blooming local scene.

Cayn Borthwick’s third single 'Keep Me' is a smooth instrumental love song with a heart of lo-fi boogie gold.

Sputtering hi-hats sway against a ricocheting bass line. Waves of washed out synths and crashing tom toms beach themselves while a delicate melody steers its way through the swelling music. What’s that in the distance? A saxophone comes surging down the crest and surfs off into the distance. You can hear the influence of American soul artist Dwight Sykes here as Cayn Borthwick writes an ode to the ocean at Victoria’s Surfcoast. A soundtrack to the long drive from Coburg to the water, to the unpredictable weather, to the rugged beaches, to surfing with friends and to solace out the back.

The Melbourne composer and sax blaster is a stalwart of the local scene having played in groups as colourful and varied as NO ZU, Mighty Duke & The Lords and Sui Zhen, but Borthwick’s musical CV expands far beyond the live realm – he spent a year composing a piece every week for a Masters of Music, has created interactive sound art with Playable Streets, written for workshop with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra and arranged for the Melbourne Ska Orchestra.

Cayn Borthwick’s debut album Big City Whispers will be released on March 27, 2020 on vinyl and digital through Lost and Lonesome.

MISTY HUSH REVIVAL - Summer Means New Love

"Duo between Zorn and one of most representative guitarist of improvisational music - Fred Frith. Both are in excellent form and the album is great evidence how fruitful and interesting improvisational jazz can sound when played by two masters. Only Frith's guitar and Zorn's alto sax sounds (plus some minimalistic tapes loops) build aural picture of thousand nuances. Not as extremely freaky as Zorn's early experimental works, this music contains one of the best interplays in both musicians history. And - this release is great example how good improvisational sax player John Zorn is ( during last decade or even more he doesn't demonstrate his virtuosity too often).

Far not an easy listening, but one of great "classical" Zorn's avant-garde jazz works, must have album for every serious Zorn's music fan or researcher." - Jazz Music Archives
