For this month’s Bodyvision show, recorded during the recent solar eclipse and new moon, Gavilán Rayna Russom sets out a sonic landscape that explores and activates music’s ability to bridge and inflect the spectral space between inner and outer worlds.

Gavilán Rayna Russom is an interdisciplinary artist based in New York City with a 30 year legacy in underground club spaces. Born in Providence, RI, Rayna moved to New York in 1997 and spent much of the 2000’s in Berlin. Her discography includes releases on Curle, LuxRec, Nation, DFA, Ecstatic, and Modern Obscure Music. Her sound blends a visionary experimentalism with a deeply embodied relationship to the dance floor and movement. She has toured the world multiple times as a DJ and performing artist, as well as with several bands and collaborative projects. In addition to her work in music she is an internationally recognized artist and writer whose work consistently returns to clubs and other underground spaces of exchange as vital cultural zones specifically and especially for trans and other gender expansive people. Rayna is the Founding Director of Voluminous Arts, an organization and label dedicated to foregrounding, nurturing, and advancing the experimental artistic culture of transgender people and communities.
