Guest mix by Vanishing Patient: 'This mix was meant to tell the story of Gantz and Mala taking Amapiano’s log drums and revealing some kind of hidden accord between 112 and 140bpm. But it became a mix about reality instead, with shit internet and low energy. So it’s chocka full of heavy – new and less-new – wyrdo club tunes recorded within and against the reproduction of hospitals and for all those movements outside the club. My approach to music and sound involves collage, field-recording and a range of ambient compositional approaches that all attempt to convey emotions, symbols and messaging that typically remain hidden from our daily experiences. It is hard to define exactly what I am searching for through music, but my mixes express this very same longing. I made this selection around the time of Ryuichi Sakamoto’s passing, who was a huge inspiration for myself and many others. Bookending the mix with his last recordings, my sentiment conveys that of the first rain of spring and the last light of winter, as profound as every life and its subsequent loss. Rest in peace, Maestro.”

The mix was originally created for the Dunkel Therapy series. 

Dunkel Therapy is a pilot project of Kunsthalle Bratislava in collaboration with the NEXT - Advanced music festival, which uses the exhibition space A Black Box for darkness and sound therapy. Gradually during the year, we will welcome eight Slovak music labels and their producers to the exhibition space - A Black Box. At the first session, on 18 May at 18:00, Adam Donoval from Warm Winters Ltd. and Jakub Juhás from the mappa label will present their musical dramaturgical selections.

Doris Dana is the project of Miami-based experimental sound artist, Mónica Mesa. It is a project that falls in the interzone between ambient, industrial, and tape music—an auditory exploration of the liminal space in mundane moments. Mónica is also part of the duo bad LSD trips, whose album by the same name was released via Enmossed and Psychic Liberation, and has released 3 EPs under the umbrella of doris dana since then via Miami-based labels, Impresión and Noir Age.

This mix features a selection of tracks by artists that inhabit a sonic psychedelic landscape; words; layered improvisations, and unreleased tracks—it is a soundtrack for imaginary films.

A couple months ago I started a project to turn my normal journaling process into a channel flipping experience! All the scratch work and raw ideas packaged together. I noticed I loved listening to all my nascent and unfinished ideas playing through my composition journals, so I decided all the new ones I would start making into a listening experience!
