Mutant Radio x Ensemble Podcast!
a new podcast series of original sound creations, building new collective imaginaries.
The continuing intensity of environmental, social, political and economic crises re-interrogate our ways of sharing and of being together. In the current health context and when it’s particularly important to bring out new stories and possible futures, maintenant festival is launching a new online format of listening. ensemble is a one-hour musical podcast series, a new space that allow artists to propose something different and connected with what they are experiencing. With ensemble, artists takes a look at the state of the world and bears witness to the changes in our contemporary society. As a collection, this ensemble of sound creations and personal narratives invites us to listen and to share. It designed to construct a common referential and a new collective set of imaginations.

Bside Incoming: Rubi

Now based in Berlin, Rubi was recently running her own 'Out of Sight' event series in Yangon while teaching tech as a professor in Myanmar. As well as co-founding the Kommuna Tapes record label, founded in 2016 under the same name as the successful Barcelona event series, she is also a resident with RA+RE and Rings of Neptune.

Each one of her mixes is as cool and clinical as it is richly warm, packed full of new musical discoveries and much cherished records. 004 Jamie Bennett

Do you know Jamie Bennett? Maybe you do, maybe you don’t, maybe you heard one of your friends whisper: “That’s the Crown Ruler guy." One thing is undoubtedly true – Australia’s music scene wouldn’t be the same without Jamie’s influence. The wonderful Crown Ruler brand has exerted its influence throughout the country and far beyond. If this is news to you, start looking a little closer to home and you’ll spot the clues.

We’ll keep this intro brief – a cheeky web-surf will provide plenty of thoughtful write ups on the man’s roots. We think Jamie’s an incredible DJ. A trove of aural excellence comes through in this mix; Lovers rock, sun-kissed gems, and plenty of soulful rarities from all corners. It’s a little less about genre and a little more about mood.

When we joked with Jamie that the cost of the records in this mix alone must be his retirement fund, he slyly shot back: "That's my super." It’s hard to explain the effort, the research, and even the resources that go into pulling together the sort of collections that are at the heart of a mix like this. Perhaps that’s a little digger-to-digger nod, a silent sign of appreciation at the incredibly impractical art of carting around bags and bags of records in this day and age.

Our admiration goes beyond knowing the work involved. Hearing and experiencing Jamie’s talent through Waxflower’s speakers was, for us, a thing of joy. And at the heart of it all is Jamie’s love of music. We were honoured to have him play on the wheels at Wax. Music and Human connection, Enjoy!
