Shared Frequency 008 - ANNX

Next up in the selector series we have the pleasure to host Valerio and Gio from Italy who together make up the duo Raregems. The couple are longtime record diggers and collectors and formed the project "Raregems" in 2021, aiming to unearth forgotten records from Italy and around the world. They also run a record store under the same name, a source and supplier of the finest goodies around. They wake up at dawn looking for records in flea markets, participate in record fairs around Europe both as sellers and selectors. As DJs they play at listening bars around Europe and curate a monthly program on Radio Raheem in Milan. For the current mix they have made an afternoon-compatible and cocktail-ready selection of italo disco and obscure European boogie of the 80s, and as expected, showcase a couple of rare grooves from under the radar. Towards the end of the previous millennium, on the vast fertile lands of the Venetian region, music must have spread its seeds deeply as the local population has grown passionate about beats and melodies. So it did its trick with Mattia Barbon, in art Barbe (@barbeeeee), who approached the turntables in his High School years and has not stopped spinning since then.

In 2019, he joined the People crew and soon got the chance to express his potential in front of a crowd, often playing in local venues such as After Caposile and Black_sheep. Later, he obtained a regular slot on radio Ibiza Underground (@ibizaundgnd), delighting listeners with some notable records ranging from top-notch techno house to modern progressive. But that is only an approximative range that doesn't account for his unpredictability.

In this episode of Aquatic Gardens, Barbe reveals an emerging branch of his vinyl collection and a new surging wave in the Italian and international scene: a very catchy, sometimes dark, sometimes dreamy Electro with glorious basslines.

Obsessive music purveyor, avid record collector and regular radio face, Luca hosts his E2-E8 show on East London’s Netil Radio, where he showcases new music he is into and invites new artists and record players, mainly from the local scene. Since 2021 he also turned E2-E8 into a record label, putting new local artists on the map and exploring electronic music in its many facets.
Luca can cover a broad range of sounds in his sets, from ambient to techno and everything in between.

«I've put this mix together after an inspiring weekend in the North of England, celebrating the birthday of the Golden Lion in Todmorden where Andrew Weatherall left an indelible mark.
The mix includes music from Weatherall himself, alongside music that would have comfortably sat in some of his ALFOS sets (never above 120BPM!), tracks I was reminded of during the two days of partying, and music that in one way or another has to do with Vladimir Ivkovic who closed proceedings on Saturday night (what a set sir!). The cruising speed stays around 100BPM - but the reassuring steadiness of the pace is contrasted by the variety of sounds and beat patterns throughout the mix.»
