Music has been my way of coping with social anxiety for as long as I can remember. I realized early on that I could drive a conversation by asking what someone listened to. No matter what their answer was, I could find enough common ground to break the ice and fuel a conversation. 

When I started making music, I think it was a continuation of the same thing. In high school, I would spend my weekends alone in a dark room learning what an oscillator is or what compression does - unless I was at my drummer's house writing rock music with my band. 

Music was there for me when I felt most alone, and it's also been there when I've felt most fulfilled. Through the highs and the lows I've felt an ever-present and unbreakable pull to music - something deeper than passion, closer to love... an Eternal Affinity

Happy Autumn and welcome back to our recurring mix series 'Styles'; a sonic journey aimed at showcasing unique styles and subgenres nestled amongst the broad landscape of electronic dance music. For this, our ninth episode, we are excited to share with you a fresh new mix from GRA co-founder and resident DJ, TwoThrows, as he explores a burgeoning new subgenre, Bassline Dubstep.

"Bassline Dubstep is a style that draws heavy inspiration from the old school and fuses it with copious aspects of more contemporary electronic dance genres. This style, often hovering around 140 bpm, is typically characterized by its utilization of slower halftime dubstep drum patterns along with faster feeling double-time hi hat and percussion rhythms, producing its distinguishing sound. With an emphasis on leading basslines and heavy vocal sample usage, Bassline Dubstep will often draw inspiration from adjacent styles such as 2-Step, Grime and Drill just to name a few. The genre has made waves in the mid 2020s as producers such as Hamdi, Sammy Virji and Cesco among others have honed in on the swingy, swanky vibes that this style conjures up."

Andreilien returns with an EP of fresh dubbed out tunes, this time exploring some deeper downtempo realms with Tafoni and Dreamonoid and then blasting off into dreadlocked psychedelic psy-fi spaces where many minds have been lost and everything on earth has sprung a leak, seeping deeper and deeper into fractal jungles and then flittering away with a bounce to trippy dub riddims.

Andreilien / Andrei Olenev first emerged as HEYOKA on the San Francisco underground glitch/bass scene in 2006. By 2009 he was touring extensively and quickly became a staple sound in the rapidly growing bass music scene of North America. With a constantly evolving, original style, he stood out amongst bass music producers as one who keeps the vibe going strong while venturing to explore new realms of sonic experience. Playing always live sets of his own original tracks, his music has been described as a journey through fractal soundscapes and alternate realms while riding the waves of fat glitch beats and earth rumbling sub bass.

I'm palming it off as 'What The Labels Don't Want You To Hear - Part 2' due to the fact that there's a few un-released tracks in there, however, there's a load of un-released stuff I have that isn't in this set, or uploaded anywhere, so expect a 'What The Labels Don't Want You To Hear - Part 3' shortly after this :) The reason I didn't put a bunch of the other un-released stuff in this set is purely because I wanted this set to be a solid banging hour of music, and a lot of the other stuff wouldn't really fit into this idea.

Often referred to as 'The First US Bass Music label' , Muti Music has been pushing emerging and established genres of bass music since 2002.
Muti  Music = Medicine Music.
In South African English, the word "muti" is used to refer to all sorts of herbal medicine. It is derived from the Zulu/Xhosa word umuthi, meaning "tree," whose root is -thi. In Southern Africa, "muti" and cognates of umuthi are in widespread use in most indigenous African languages as well as in South African English and Afrikaans, which sometimes use "muti" as a slang word for medicine in general, or even as a term for 'good luck'.
