Weston may not be a name that is widely recognized yet, but it's one that we’re certain has a very bright future. Hailing from Kelowna, BC, he is another example of this region’s immense and deep talent pool. Previously releasing music under the moniker Subclaim, Bryce has been continually improving his chops and working with other producers and vocalists. He has released music on Mat The Alien’s stellar Really Good Recordings and has also remixed Aufect alumni, Half Normal. When he sent us this juicy demo we knew the time was nigh to start working together. ~
This EP is a collection of 4 precision engineered cuts - A perfect balance of Deep and Dark atmospheres that’s lush, warm and brimming with character. These tracks brought us back to the era when we first fell in love with Dubstep and serve as a reminder to why the genre is still alive and well. Weston has enlisted the immense talents of MC Ill Chill, vocalist Sarah Zad and fellow Kelowna-based producer, Toltek on the EP and it shows this young producer’s adept skill in really unifying the tracks and creating a compelling, cohesive package. ~
The EP starts off with the title track, “Ritual”, a dark and brooding Dubstep anthem featuring Ill Chill’s signature baritone refrain over top of sparse but precise drums and mega tonne sub bass. An ode to the magic herb that BC has become well-known for. “Electric Vibration” brings the intensity down and smooths out the vibes with mellow instrumentation and an haunting saxophone riff. Sarah Zad’s buttery smooth verse recounts a deep passion and the magic of a shared love. Ill Chill’s verse tells the other side of the story and we’re left wondering where the wet spot is. “Judgement” is a moody Dubstep stepper that is cloying with it’s simplicity, yet it’s haunting chord stab and sparse vocal stay with you long after listening. Lastly, “Spectraminds” sees Weston and Toltek link up to create a unique, psychedelic footwork cut. Interesting polyrhythmic kicks provide the foundation for saturated bass stabs and an hypnotic arpeggiated sine wave, punctuated by dripping FX stabs.

Coming back around for its second pass through the gauntlet, MALAKAI's methodically sculpted Saros EP has been reimagined by a particularly selected cadre of forward thinking producers. Primate, pheel., Foxtail, and Wiseyoungfool have brought along their unique flavors of experimentation with each respective remix. From wildly enhanced percussive movements to fresh synthesis and juggled arrangements, each producer has spared no effort in unleashing a renewed creative wave over Saros. Having no mind to miss out on all the fun, MALAKAI has also sneaked in a VIP of “My Middle Name..”, reinvigorating the track from the top down with a fresh lease of life. Considering each new take falls in line with the respectable MALAKAI ethos, fans of his original catalog will thoroughly enjoy the musings of Saros [New Cycle].

The Clipping Paths series compiled by Dov1 continues with a version themed on all things influenced by Dub / Reggae / Island Vibes. The roster featured are some familiar Muti Music artists , along with some fresh faces for the future. The compilation kicks off in the 85BPM range and as the compilation progresses, moves it’s way down to deeper 70BPM Dubstep and softer vibes. We hope you feel a little bit of the dub, a little bit of the skank and bounce and then a good amount of soft and heady chill vibes.

The original Clipping Paths compilation in 2007 set a tone for many emerging sounds from Muti Music and featured ‘then’ new artists Ooah, Vibesquad, Audiovoid, Nanda, Timonkey, Slidecamp and Muti regulars like An-ten-nae and Dov1, needless to say it has been quoted by many as an influence and has proven to help define new sounds that have blown up in the years that followed.

Often referred to as 'The First US Bass Music label' , Muti Music has been pushing emerging and established genres of bass music since 2002.
Muti  Music = Medicine Music.
In South African English, the word "muti" is used to refer to all sorts of herbal medicine. It is derived from the Zulu/Xhosa word umuthi, meaning "tree," whose root is -thi. In Southern Africa, "muti" and cognates of umuthi are in widespread use in most indigenous African languages as well as in South African English and Afrikaans, which sometimes use "muti" as a slang word for medicine in general, or even as a term for 'good luck'.
