Code Rising is an American Electro duo that was formed in 2010 and consists of Matt Lancaster (South Carolina) and Ryan Phillips (South Florida). Over the years, Code Rising has shared the stage and worked with some of the biggest names in the Electro music scene; performing live mainly in Miami and the surrounding Florida coasts.
After a healthy line of digital releases on Monotone Records from 2010-2013, the duo saw the release of their first full-length CD "Dissemination Protocol" on their own label, Propulsion Recordings. 2021 saw the largest release from the duo yet; "A Spectral Odyssey" was released digitally via BandCamp with a whopping 18 track playlist. Accounting for original and collaborative work, the duo have more than several 12" EP releases in their catalogue. So, what's coming up? In early 2023 a 12" wax release of "Retro Miami (Extended Cut)" and "Don't Stop The Beat feat. Gucci Bass & E.P.G." will be available via Dominance Electricity (Germany).

1. Which artists has influenced you the most?
There are too many to name because we take inspiration from many different artists.. even different genres at times. Even in terms of Electro only, it's still too many to name and we think this mix is a testament to that.

2. What new projects/releases with your participation are expected in the near future?
"Retro Miami" got an extended cut treatment and will be out on vinyl along with "Don't Stop The Beat" Feat. Gucci Bass & EPG in early 2023. This release will be distributed via Dominance Electricity. Aside from those, we have ~10 or so additional tracks in the works. Several of which can be heard in this mix. Also, be on the lookout for Mixer Fixer: Part 2, which may or may not be a wax release as it is yet TBD.

3. Which artists/labels is more relevant to you now?
Dominance Electricity has been kind enough to have us on board several times now. We give a huge "Thanks!" to Matthias Weise for that and we hope to continue releasing music with him. It's always an honor to be part of such a respectable label with a clear vision and the means to execute it. Not to mention Matthias is just a great guy to work with in general. Super nice!

4. What inspires you now to create music?
The fans.. those people who message us online or chat with us at our live shows about how much they enjoy the sounds we create.. that's a big thing that keeps us going. Though tweaking knobs, writing beats, and experimenting with odd synth sounds is something we take a pleasure in doing anyway. It's difficult for any artist to keep their same sound and style over time and at the same time not sound "formulated". So we keep challenging ourselves to do more, do better, and be different. Our efforts are a small contribution, but like many others in the community, we try to help push the next wave of Electro sounds toward the future.

On that note, most inspiring of all is the fact that there are many, many talented people around the globe producing stellar Electro; Their love and imagination for the genre being the only ceiling of their creativity and chosen style. This fact alone means Electro as a whole will always be immune from sounding over-saturated and boring.

Luis Fernando Parra a.k.a. Rec_Overflow es el primer artista que abre la serie de podcasts de Mutoscope Records. Su elección para abrir esta serie no es casual, al contrario, es totalmente premeditada, pues Rec_Overflow lleva desde mediados de los noventa siendo agente activo y una de las referencias principales de la escena electrónica underground.

En su sonido confluyen la experimentación electrónica cruda y profunda junto al hiphopismo más óscuro, pasajes melódicos insólitos e implacables y momentos de absoluta catarsis rítmica. El resultado que se produce en el oyente/espectador es un sonorismo onírico capaz de evocar un sinfín de imágenes que quedan perfectamente entrelazadas con la música que se escucha.

Todos los que hemos visto un directo de Rec_Overflow sabemos que durante su actuación muestra un dinamismo y una energía extraordinaria.

Ha publicado un extenso material (formato digital) en sellos como Plataforma-LTW, Crazy Language, Miga, Brainstormlab, Audioactivity, etc. Pero si prefieres vinilo, encontrarás también su música publicada en Pulpa, spa.RK, Detroit Underground, Sin Hilo o Artificial Intelligence.

La dirección musical de Mutoscope Records se encuentra principalmente dentro del sonido IDM y braindance, es por ello que encontramos en Rec_Overflow la mejor opción para iniciar esta serie de podcasts. Su amplio conocimiento dentro de estos estilos le permite ser un selector musical excelente, valor que se pone de manifiesto en este set, donde Luis transmite en todo momento la idea exacta de lo que quiere expresar y concreta a la perfección lo que es el trabajo de un dj.

Veelargo es un productor de música electrónica español que reside en Polonia (Cracovia) desde 2016, después de haber vivido en Inglaterra dos años.

Empezó a interesarse por la música siendo adolescente y su pasión por ella le llevó primero a pinchar y gradualmente a producir. Sus influencias son muy variadas y van desde el IDM, Ambient, Electro o Techno, al Krautrock, EBM o Post Punk.

Para Veelargo, componer música electrónica es sinónimo de libertad absoluta y lo considera como constante aprendizaje, rigiéndose por cierta disciplina basada en constancia para aprender y mejorar su técnica.

Para el segundo podcast de Mutoscope Records, Veelargo ha grabado en exclusiva un directo de sus propias producciones (algunas aún inéditas). Durante la escucha, la primera conclusión es más que evidente, Veelargo rehúye lo convencional y promueve su evolución creativa desde el extremo.

Veelargo inunda al oyente con un gran acopio de sonidos orgánicos, por momentos hipnóticos y transparentes, administrándolos a la perfección con percusiones procesadas y melodías preciosistas. En cuanto al planteamiento rítmico, el artista mantiene la atención del oyente a través de medios tiempos y estructuras más complejas y contundentes, que en algunas ocasiones se retuercen en pedazos, siendo éstos los instantes más arriesgados del live.

Lo más relevante es que todos los elementos, sonidos e ideas de este directo identifican un sonido propio, dejando entrever la inquietante personalidad de su creador durante todo el desarrollo del mismo.

Bristol resident lee makes blissed out/spacey eletro-acid and break-beat driven IDM. His sound is characterised by an unhealthy penchant for Roland TR drum patterns, ethereal pads and tasty acid lines. lee’s tunes owe a great deal to the traditional god-fathers of Braindance but also more recent influences such as Wisp, Microlith and even Burial.

lee received his first break in 2018 with the release of ‘Solace’ on the now defunct Calcul Records. Following this, he became involved in X4 Records with a track included on every VA compilation they have released.

In 2020, lee released his debut album ‘Alcyonian’ on Concrete Collage followed later by the self-released ‘Kindred/Ditty’ single later that year.

A string of releases on other VAs occurred throughout 2020, including tracks on the Five Year Anniversary CD for Evel Records, on the VA for the mysterious Gablonkers collective and on the Creation of a Positron VA for the Bristol-based Sci-Fact label.

In 2022, lee signed-up to put out that notoriously difficult second album on Artificial Intelligence, as well as contributing a track to Artificial Intelligence’s Vol. II. The new album ‘For Emma’ is out on vinyl on Artificial Intelligence on the 30th December.

This podcast showcases lee’s sound over a relatively short four year musical career. lee says “It was fun putting all the tracks I’ve released over the years into one thing. You kind-of forget about tracks once they’re done. It’s strange to think that people might listen to all of it. Well done to any who makes it through to the end, and I hope you enjoyed it!”

Caramel Chameleon is an alias of Francesco Pio Nitti, born and raised in Castellana Grotte, in southern Italy. He approached music from the age of 12 and at 14 began to develop an interest in electronic music, the world of synthesisers and sound editing. 

His electronic music works are influenced by styles such as acid, detroit electro, ambient, IDM, Braindance and the Warp Records and Rephlex Records house sound, all styles intertwined with his diverse background in music production and listening, outside of electronic music in the broadest sense. 

Caramel Chameleon's musical productions feature the intensive use of vintage analogue equipment and digital hardware (due to his passion for such instrumentation) and is released digital, cassette and vinyl formats by international labels such as: 030303 Records, Undersound Recordings / NOUN, Nebulae Records, Mindcolormusic, EVES Music, Distorted Sensory Perception, Artificial Intelligence Records and many others.

Wer mich etwas kennt … weiß das ich auch ein ganz großer Ambient-Fan bin … eine ganz besondere Spielart der elektronische Musik und weit darüber hinaus. 

Ich habe diesmal etwas länger suchen müssen, um eine Künstler zu finden der für meine kleine „We Are At Home“ Reihe ein Ambiet-Set beisteuert. Mark war aber von der Idee sofort total begeistert und in seinem Garten-Refugium in Kopenhagen langen an der Selection gearbeitet.

Mit diesen Worten habe ich den Mix bekommen … ich denke es ist nix hinzuzufügen:

„I have made an ambient podcast consisting primarily of music from friends of mine. It has turned into something very emotional for me, and I got tears in my eyes while listening this morning. 

My focus has been on telling a story throughout the podcast with the musical selections and with the assistance of Mr. Alan Watt’s vocal.

The story reflects in many ways things I’ve lived and learned throughout the last 3 years of my life. Because of this I have titled the mix ‘reflections’."

Das Cover hat Marc übrigens selbst gemacht und da es so gut zum Thema passt haben wir diesmal auf den Rahmen verzichtet … da es so ein Gesamtkunstwerk ist.

Elektro Uwe ist zurück … aber nur kurz und nur um euch in dieser seltsamen Zeit mit guter Musik zu versorgen … die Reihe endet, wenn die Clubs wieder aufmachen. Und bitte unterstützt eure Freiräume … sonst wird es sie nach der Krise nicht mehr geben.
