For Tonight, a new indie-rock musical, was first seen as a developmental reading at New York Musical Theatre Festival (2014), and then at the New Works Festival at Goodspeed Musicals in January 2015. In October 2015, FOR TONIGHT had its UK premiere at Theatrefest '15 on the Isle of Man. It was performed as a staged concert. Also, FOR TONIGHT debuted at Michigan State University as a part of the ImaGen program at Wharton Center for Performing Arts. 

This project truly began about eight years ago when Spencer and Shenelle (husband and wife) moved from Philadelphia back to the Bay Area. They started a small indie-rock duo, called Missus and Mister and released an EP on iTunes in 2010. After performing at local coffee shops and clubs, friends, family and even strangers kept talking about how their music would be great for a musical. 

After throwing a few ideas around, in the summer of 2012, Spencer and Shenelle sitting in the mountains of Bavaria created their storyboard for their current project "For Tonight." With their unique background in the theatre as educators, performers, musicians, and critics, they are ready to bring their ideas of what musical theatre could and should be in 21st century. 

They are collaborating with Whitney Rhodes, a writer, performer, and education director based out of Minneapolis, MN. Whitney and Spencer met at National High School Musical Theatre Awards in NYC in 2010. After spending many hours chatting about musical theatre education practices and policies they started talking about performing and writing. Both were surprised to find out that the other wrote, and after a few emails tossing forth ideas back in September 2012, Whitney was on board with the project.

This is truly a musical written in the 21st century but based in the 1840’s, using thematic material and current popular musical idioms that will relate to the writer’s generation and hopefully bring a new audience to the theatre. 


"Sunfish," is the winner of the top jury honor (Best American Musical) at the 2013 Daegu International Musical Festival in South Korea, 2005 Jonathan Larson, Daryl Roth, and TRU Daniel Marshall Multicultural Awards.  With Music by Hyeyoung Kim and Lyrics by Michael Cooper, "Sunfish" is based on the Korean folk tale, 'Shim-chung,' which follows the journey of a devoted daughter trying to help her blind father regain his eyesight - and the incredible lengths that she is willing to go for love.

"Sunfish" received it's world premiere regional production at the Stoneham Theatre outside of Boston in 2011 (voted Best Musical, Broadwayworld Awards) and was previously showcased at the NAMT Festival (2006), TRU Musical Series, and selected for the ASCAP Workshop with Stephen Schwartz.
