Steyoyoke Black continues to make its presence known and with the wind of success in their sails they charge full steam ahead with their second release, which has already featured in Finnbassen's latest BBC Radio 1 podcast for Pete Tong. The 'Tranquila' EP by Pete Oak features one original and one remix, with Dahu stepping forth for remix duties. 'Tranquila' is an EP that brings together not one, but two princes of darkness who perfectly reflect the sinister sounds now bound to Steyoyoke Black.

'Tranquilla' is an ode to Pete Oak's production skills and is indeed something to be admired. The rhythm is sharp, intense and demanding, with a heavy dose of percussion to help accentuate a strong sense of mystique and power. The bassline rolls and lolls, sucking into a hole of techno driven darkness. 

Dahu's remix can best be described as liquid gold to the ears. He chooses to expose 'Tranquila's underlying attitude and majestic beauty, which makes you want to close your eyes at times to fully absorb its melodic groove. Strings, high hats and layered synths overlap a cascade of chord progressions, that gradually push you to a point of no return.

La preposición procedente del latín CIRCA se utiliza en bibliografía científica, en documentos históricos o en genealogías para ubicar temporalmente un acontecimiento y determinar mediante supuestos, en qué momento de la historia de la humanidad ha podido suceder. Con este título este nuevo trabajo de Jëan Fixx busca desplazarnos a un tiempo indeterminado donde la relación del ser humano y la tecnología es tan estrecha que ya no se alcanza a diferenciar el mundo virtual del real.

En este compilatorio de remixes podemos escuchar las revisiones de los tracks de CIRCA realizadas por Death Whistle, Leuter, Drow, Ekkofault y Ermete Lo Stige, aportando otras aproximaciones estéticas posibles del EP original, llevándonos a diferentes estados emocionales a través de cinco ópticas muy personales:   La remezcla de “Humans” de Ekkofault nos transporta a un transformador amanecer, melódico y luminoso, en el que el encontrar paz y consuelo de la mano de un tema con influencias ambient, chill out y aportes vaporwave.   El remix de inspiración downtempo y tech house que nos presenta Leuter del tema “CIRCA”, nos muestra una narrativa progresiva elegante y flotante que nos seduce con pequeños lapsus de síntesis experimental.   Death Whistle nos lleva a un universo profundo y oscuro con influencias del IDM, el bass y el glitch, a través de la revisión magistral que hace del tema de influencia transhumanista “Virtual Body Language”.   Drow nos sorprende con esta contundente y precisa remezcla de techno oscuro y minimalista, en la que la firmeza de los vocales del tema “The Truth” acompañan una frenética línea de bajo que nos arrastran irremediablemente a la pista de baile.   Para completar esta publicación Jëan Fixx nos presenta “Last Call”, un nuevo tema que funciona como epílogo del EP CIRCA, en el que nos invita a tomar conciencia y acción de forma urgente en relación a nuestro presente y por lo tanto nuestro futuro. Este track combina elementos de techno clásico con arreglos más industriales y atmosféricos, junto a sonidos melódicos que nos retrotraen a la década de los 90, aportando un tono épico y progresivo que ya habíamos escuchado en algunos temas anteriores suyos como “Tannhäuser Tor” (2022) o “Globalizer” (2020).

Los 36 minutos de este EP se completan con el dinámico e intenso remix que el productor y DJ Ermete Lo Stige ha realizado de este epílogo, aportando grandes dosis de sonidos industriales y atmósferas oscuras que nos remiten al EBM y al techno progresivo, y que habitualmente encontramos en sus producciones.

Over the course of 150 releases, Canadian label My Favorite Robot Records has established itself as one of electronic music’s key imprints. Their latest is another special offering of well sculpted club sounds that come from the talented Fairmont.

Jake Fairley aka Fairmont is an electronic music producer, live performer and DJ from Toronto, Canada, who has put out three albums, the last of which came on this label in 2012. His artful EPs have come on labels like Border Community, Days of Being Wild and his own Beachcoma imprint as well of course on his home from home, My Favorite Robot Records. Out of the studio Fairley has long held a reputation as an impressive live performer and is currently in the process of putting together a new show. This brand new show will feature hardware he has built himself from studio components, encased in perspex and lit up like the setting sun; expect something special, part live show, part art installation!

This latest release opens with the compelling ‘Carthage’ a track built around lush layers of supple and reflective synths. Big bass broods below and the effect is trance inducing and serene. At eight minute long this epic piece of work never outstays its welcome and instead just lulls you deeper under its electronic spell.

Next up, ‘Loose Teeth’ is another elongated track that progressively builds and builds in exquisite fashion with Sasha-esque synths bubbling away. It’s widescreen and intergalactic and full of class. Last of all, this transcendental synth trip concludes with the gorgeous ‘With Closed Eyes.’ Landing almost fully formed, it is slick and sleek electronic music with long tailed pads, carefully decaying synth lines and a kinetic sense of energy with whispered vocals up top.

Spine tingling and sure to take any DJ set to the next level, this is a sublime trio of tracks from Fairmont and MFR and sets the stage perfectly for the live show to come.

‘Deadman’s Walk’ kicks things off with lush percussive grooves and luminous shades of euphoria resulting in a serene foray into enchanted destinations while the self titled ‘Aftermath’ follows with a much more deliberate intent utilizing rich, rising harmonies and bold, rugged drums culminating in a massive sonic event. 

Flipping to the B-side we see Culoe dive into an energetic and unique space with ‘Bang Royales’ creating undeniably engaging rhythms with vocal chants and off kilter rhythms. Rounding out the EP is ‘Juice’ and with it’s heavenly sounds of angelic vocals and soaring progressions is the perfect display of De Song’s signature sound and approach.

For ATL014 we head to the sprawling sunny metropolis of LA as talented duo Speaking In Tongues mastermind a stunning 3 tracker, assisted via Buenos Aires with a remix courtesy of Santiago Garcia.

Speaking In Tongues have greated something truly special with 'Passenger' drawing you in from the first bar through a focused 4/4 groove and deep edgey undercurrent, giving a sense the music can erupt at any point. Focus is drawn to the vocal as the intermittent cry of 'Pasajeros' meets crashing resonating percussive beats. The dancefloor moment is sustained by a deep overhead bass bombardment and hypnotic groove that will have you hitting the loop button for repeat plays.

Santiago Garcia provides a dramatic remix, pitching the bpm down to focus on the percussive tribal elements and melodies, letting the stunning 'Passenger' vocals shimmer and take over while giving listeners a a real sense of space.

Uplifting closer 'Twenty Nine Palms' transports listeners to a far off mystic land as Speaking In Tongues weave their sonic patterns through swathes of tasteful analogue sounds, revererating vox and undulating bass over crisp hats.

The recent Speaking In Tongues remix of Kauf featured on Kölsch's BBC Radio One Residency, and originals like 'Hear Me' featuring Cari Golden have had live plays from Damian Lazarus, Sasha, Lee Van Dowski, Herna'n Catta'neo and BOg.

Earlier this year, @c_a_r aka Chloé Raunet’s second album 'PINNED' was released to huge acclaim from the likes of DJ Mag, Resident Advisor and Trax Magazine.

The first of two multifaceted remix EPs out later this month, 'PINNED Up' realises the powerful dancefloor potential of Raunet's material and features contributions from the likes of Marcus Worgull, Bawrut and Lokier. @michael-mayer-kompakt heads up the release with a remix that unleashes the latent kinetic energy and emotive power of original album closer 'This City'. Writing this text right now feels awkward. When we received this demo in late 2019, pictures of people dancing barefoot on soft grass at picturesque open-airs unfolded before our inner eyes, as for us, Blindsmyth’s "Gryllidae“ represents the quintessential summer track. 

But now, late in March 2020, the Covid-19 pandemic is in full effect. Currently, we don’t know if a single open-air or festival can take place this summer or if we will be able to enjoy the season the way we are used to, at all. However, this major uncertainty is no reason for us to change our release plans, as even if our activities will probably be limited this summer, "Gryllidae“ will still be your friendly companion. The beauty of this track is its ultimate easiness, even though it is full of edgy moments and elements. It is a very unique composition, motivating you to listen to it over and over again, discovering something new every time. 

Berlin-based Blindsmyth, who has shone before with releases on Diynamic and Cosmic Society, was able to create something with "Gryllidae“, which many producers often try to achieve, but mostly fail: Perpetuating the feeling of summer with a piece of music.
