After appearing on the label with a remix back in the summer, HearThuG is back with an EP on My Favorite Robot Records all to himself this time out. Following outings on other labels like New York’s Stranjjur, Young Tunisian Jihed Monser offers up four tracks that suggest he is someone who very much has his own unique take on synth rich electronic music.
Up first is ‘Dancing on A Grave,’ which features vocal participation from My Favorite Robot. The track is a steely number built on solid metallic percussion and run through with classic synth sounds that nod to the ‘80s as much as they do the unknown future. Vocals that seem resigned to their fate are stretched out between the beats and convey a real sense of pain as the colourful track unfolds all around.

‘L.O.V.E. is Mysterious’, one of the stand-out tracks from MFR’s debut compilation Crossing Wires 001 this summer, is another brilliantly elongated hymn that’s wrought with pain. The synths seem sombre in the way they get drawn out over the face of the track and prove HearThuG to be a real master of sadness.

The excellent ‘Heartbeat’ is a strident house cum electro jam with thick, rasping synth lines spraying about above jostling broken beats. It’s punchy yet emotive, and the vocals once again add an extra layer of humanness to the stark sounds HearThuG lays down. Finally, classy EP closer ‘Emptyvision’ is a little more laid back and elastic, bouncing in a nice deep groove with synth stabs and smears bringing plenty of tension to proceedings despite the leisurely pace.

These are four heavyweight tracks that pack a serious and synth heavy punch, just the way the MFR label likes to do. On this evidence, HearThuG is likely to go on to become one of the stars of the future.

HearThuG - Emptyvision

Romanian DJ/producer BOg returns on John Digweed’s legendary Bedrock imprint with his single, ‘Rakuten’. With releases on Crosstown Rebels, Bedrock Records and a upcoming release on Get Physical, this 24 years young artist already managed to get himself a respected place in the international house scene. 

‘Rakuten’ perfectly showcases what the young Romanian is capable of. A dreamy 9 minute storyteller which slowly builds to it’s peak. It’s easy to hear why this track get's heavily played by John Digweed himself. Already released on vinyl, the digital release is set for the 17th of July on Bedrock Records.

The white walls were illuminated by the glow of the morning sun. They appeared a stark contrast to the royal blue texture of the sky which radiated warmth in the early hours. Birds soared eagerly upon the breeze above the water down below as the flickering leaves of palm trees blew gracefully in the wind. It was a beautiful scene, like something from a picture book or postcard. Soon this would all be gone. 

Deepwave are set to release a new EP from Sebastian Deluca, however it was the remix from label boss Ian Metty which caught our upmost attention.

Julian Stetter - "Bushwick"

It’s been two years since Stefan Z last released on this label, but the three tracks he serves up prove the wait has been more than worth it.

The Berlin based Canadian is the boss of the Rhombus label and is a top electronic production talent. He makes his sounds stand out with slick vocals or moving melodic elements, most likely because of his formally trained piano and trumpet playing skills. He’s had support from the likes of Sasha, Solomun and Adriatique, and his label parties in Vancouver were key in developing the city’s underground scene.

The super title track goes first and is a freaky number with spacecraft circling the groove, building tension in the melodic riffs and futurism in the drums. It’s a dramatic track with heavy, lumpy kicks and one to jolt the floor into action.

‘Borni’ is another long and involving tune, this time with more mystery and suspense in the way it builds. The drums get you marching as synths and ghoulish motifs pan about to creepy effect. It’s a real set building track that keeps you on edge.

Lastly, ‘Cipe’ is the toughest of the lot, with stiff hits and withering cosmic chords speaking of an intergalactic war. Underpinned by warm bass, it’s a widescreen cinematic affair with real beauty in the pads that eventually take over the show.

All three tracks here are mini epics that really take you on a trip.

While dilapidated drum machines, crunched beyond recognition, propel the record into techno territory, Glittering Jewel retains the artist’s bespoke youthful sense of blue-eyed naiveté.

Red Axes come through with an unclassifiable, stripped-down reinterpretation of Fire Fly, the perfect pair to deconstruct and re-contextualize the original material. 

Carefully pressed on high-quality, transparent vinyl, LAD039 stands as a testament to the label’s shifting auditory ethos.

The TOTAL series has always been like KOMPAKT’s yearbook and to say it with the late Frank Sinatra: It was a very good year. Our family of artists delivered a strong heterogeneous mix of uplifting sounds, from the lush reveries of ROBAG WRUHME and SOELA to the stark primetime bangers of MARC ROMBOY or ANNA & KITTIN and everything in between.
