Luigi Tozzi, with releases on Afterlife and Delsin is dragging Trembling down with him into the deepest crevasses of the sonic spectrum.
Architectural, with credentials on Ellum and R&S to namedrop a few, brings us a darker perspective on Trembling combined with thundering drums in the deep.

We Live In The Best Simulation

Rumoured to own a collection of vintage Jamie Principle figurines, living off a heady diet of cigarettes plus peanut butter and having been institutionalized at a human testing facility in a former life, there's only so much we can know for sure about CLARIAN - he's of Canadian origin, he's worked with Clockwork and Guy Gerber - while also wote and produced as part of infamous leftield pop crew Footprintz - and he fronts as A&R for Seth Troxler's Soft Touch imprint. That's a pretty solid portfolio for someone who's been billed as "transcendental house music producer". Which in turn is a good indication of what to expect from Clarian's debut offering on Kompakt: MISSION TO BARS comes fitted with three genre-trolling cuts shooting a bit closer to the dance floor than his earlier releases, but still keeping a lock on the unique character of his sound cosmos.

With the MISSION TO BARS triptych, CLARIAN essentially illustrates the story of an astronaut lost on a strange planet suspended in time - a story included in the vinyl release that he wrote while being alone in South Korea for a week, with its surreal, pulp-infused quality perfectly complimenting the music: hypnotic opener SPACE NOIR tells us about the astronaut's fantastic voyages through space and time - but it remains unclear if these adventures are the mere side effects of a vivid, delusional imagination. Banging title cut MISSION TO BARS finds him increasingly alienated from society and longing for his biggest love - whiskey. The smooth, mesmerizing VER (11 AM MIX) ties everything together and depicts our not-so-space-travelling hero sitting in a bar, with his mind in space and his body trying to indulge in his favorite booze - but he can't drink the whiskey, for he can't remove his space helmet, ultimately pouring the liquid gold all over his head. Seems like an appropriately surreal plot for the throbbing sub-basses, twisted vocal samples and rolling percussion - a deep, but surprisingly jaunty offering from Clarian that is brimming with left turns and idiosyncratic sound design, all the while bringing you a trio of highly playable club tunes that won't disappoint even the most discerning floors.

Clarian - Space Noir

As we turn over into 2016, AEON head honcho Alex Niggemann takes the reins for AEON’s second release in the New Year... and what an EP it is. As a DJ, producer and label boss, Alex’s production focuses on the more soulful and wistful side of Techno. With two solid original tracks and a very strong remix from Mathew and Nathan Jonson’s familiar project Midnight Operator, this release is another in the line of high quality techno AEON has become synonymous of.
Starting off with ‘Angular’, the A-side, a rising feeling of suspense progressively builds into a melodic trance. Layers seamlessly blend together, lead by an array of arpeggio-ed synthesisers. All of this is beautifully interlinked with stripped back, subtle drum patterns..
‘Convection’ brings a slightly more percussive based overlay of sound design. Layers of hats and drone like sounds build slowly until an uplifting breakdown, familiar in Alex’s productions, cuts through the track. On remix duties, Mathew and Nathan Jonson alias Midnight Operator brings a fresh approach to ‘Angular’. A psychedelic introduction builds up to a climax, before dropping right down into a very unique stripped back break beat.
Angular EP is another release of quality techno from AEON, a label that is hitting all the right notes with its output, and is fast becoming a fixture in many international DJs’ bags.

Having released Jori Hulkkonen’s latest and greatest album, Oh But I Am (as well as
the one before that!), Canadian label My Favorite Robot Records now proudly
present five fine remixes of ‘Black Books,’ a track taken from the LP.
In original form the track is a slow and wintry electronic crawler with radiant synths
adding some real heat to the glassy, icy tinkles. Triumphant trumpets add an air of
musical majesty and it’s a great set ender that will leave people on a clean and crisp
musical high. First to remix is the accomplished Finn himself, and he turns out a
great dub that has sonorous bass and big rubber kicks driving along the elegantly
atmospheric synths up top.
Next comes former Art Department man and long time Toronto techno star Kenny
Glasgow. Here he keeps things slow and blissed out, with percolating drums and
starry synths that are superbly spine tingling and spaced out. My Favorite Robot’s
eponymous in house production team then get in on the action and come up with
some seriously heavyweight techno drums and high intensity synth lines that are sure
to blow any dance floor wide open whenever they get dropped.
Next, Doc L Junior (a.k.a. Lunchbox) is a Norwegian DJ and producer from labels like
Sex Tags Mania and Music For Freaks and his Robo Dub is a charming slow churner
with cosmic arps, arresting sounds and sci fi vibes in its deep disco bones. Finally,
No.19 mainstay Nitin teams up with Butr for a final great remix that is littered with
loose, dusty drum & bass breaks and liquid, golden pads that take you back to a 90s
jungle hey day in blissful fashion.
This is a diverse and deliciously on point remix EP that offers plenty for everyone.

The product of a songwriting duo in the rich tradition of Tiga/Hulkkonen and Tiga/McCartney, “Stay Cool" marks a return of sorts to the classic Tiga sound, which is now the modern Tiga & Clarian sound. The kinda-underground acid techno grooves and magnanimously biting lyrics paint a picture so contemporary it threatens to make you live in the moment for the rest of your life.

What began organically with Clarian contributing material and production to Tiga’s 2016 No Fantasy Required LP has evolved into a contractually-mandated partnership. Having already worked with the likes of Jamie Principle, Felix Da Housecat and Guy Gerber, the Montreal-born musician is no stranger to “the hot collab," but was still taken aback by the rigorously enforced freedom he enjoyed during the "Stay Cool” sessions. “Tiga will be the first to tell you he has no ego in the studio, and in my experience that is the absolute truth,” says Clarian. “Every idea I have, every part I write, we split the credit right down the middle.”

“Stay Cool” is a real-time disintegration of the boundaries between Tiga’s public passion for music and his private obsession with digital entertainment currencies like Quarthonium Bronze and LavaBucks. “It occurred to me that what I could not stop myself from doing - typing 'HOLD YOUR POSITION' over and over in my crypto group chat - also served as an apt illustration of my heroic lifelong wrestling match with the idea of cool. And this epiphany has opened up my experience into a 360-degree panorama of creative possibility,” enthuses Tiga. “Soon, I'll be haggling over blueberries at the farmer’s market and Clarian will instantly turn in into the sound of the summer, whether you like it or you love it."

"You’re So Special” emerged from the songwriting team sitting around the drum machine in shirtsleeves with a pot of piping-hot coffee, waiting for piping-hot inspiration to strike. The lyrics ably grapple with the now, openly wondering about the direction of bleeding-edge compassion. “You see it everywhere, from airport bookstores stocked with variations on The Art of Not Giving a Fuck to airline pilots taking time off to work on themselves mid-flight,” hectors Tiga, wagging his finger for needed emphasis. “I don’t pretend to have all the answers, but what I also don’t pretend to have is patience for those who pretend to do.”

Turbo Recordings is honoured to present the latest from label founder Tiga, another career pinnacle from the man many call Mr. Pinnacle. "It’s always special for me to put out a record on Turbo,” says Tiga. "As label owner, it was an easy yes. As a valued label artist, I was pleasantly surprised by my decision."

And we’re sure you’ll be delighted at having been left out of the process entirely, as the Montreal icon makes a return to his amazing roots on “Colours So Bright." Tiga produced the record with Quinn from Paranoid London, aka Johnny Aux, at the latter’s old-school subterranean London studio, mixing raw acid house and electro with a live, one-take vocal fuelled by a brief but torrid affair with Fair Lady Alcohol. “His studio is the only place I ever really drink. You probably think of me as as an ascetic Marc Aurelius type, but as it turns out, I’m not immune to the infectious grins of the sweet lager lads of Old London Town."

Turning off the humour-powered afterburners for a moment, the story behind the song’s creation is serious in nature. Tiga recorded “Colours So Bright" shortly after attending the funeral of his close friend, the legendary producer Philippe Zdar. “I felt enveloped by his spirit,” says Tiga. “The record’s artwork is a photo from Ibiza, where we loved to spend time together with our families every year. The song inspired by and dedicated to him."

Rounding out the release is a dub version for those understandably sickened by the sound of the human voice, as well as the operatic “October Trance Song,” which Tiga describes as “designed for exactly the kind hands-in-the-air moment at a party that doesn’t exist right now. It’s like a pair of high heels but I’m a farmer. Or a rough-and-tumble ranch hand, but still with high heels. But I know the day will come when I can cast off these overalls and make that moment a reality again. See you in 2029."
