As we turn over into 2016, AEON head honcho Alex Niggemann takes the reins for AEON’s second release in the New Year... and what an EP it is. As a DJ, producer and label boss, Alex’s production focuses on the more soulful and wistful side of Techno. With two solid original tracks and a very strong remix from Mathew and Nathan Jonson’s familiar project Midnight Operator, this release is another in the line of high quality techno AEON has become synonymous of.
Starting off with ‘Angular’, the A-side, a rising feeling of suspense progressively builds into a melodic trance. Layers seamlessly blend together, lead by an array of arpeggio-ed synthesisers. All of this is beautifully interlinked with stripped back, subtle drum patterns..
‘Convection’ brings a slightly more percussive based overlay of sound design. Layers of hats and drone like sounds build slowly until an uplifting breakdown, familiar in Alex’s productions, cuts through the track. On remix duties, Mathew and Nathan Jonson alias Midnight Operator brings a fresh approach to ‘Angular’. A psychedelic introduction builds up to a climax, before dropping right down into a very unique stripped back break beat.
Angular EP is another release of quality techno from AEON, a label that is hitting all the right notes with its output, and is fast becoming a fixture in many international DJs’ bags.

MARCO RESMANN Flux EP 

Native Berliner Marco Resmann (@marco-resmann) (also one half of Luna City Express) returns to Poker Flat Recordings with the Flux EP. 

Something of a legend in the Berlin party scene since the 1990s, Resmann has continued to build on his reputation with ever impressive releases throughout his career, primarily as a part of his own Upon.You imprint.

Here, he dives into his deep bag of tricks and produces a three tracker of  finely-honed, emotional house music.

'Flux' is carved from razor sharp melodies and a precision drum that remains suspenseful and taut throughout, while a subtle wonkiness creeps in through wobbling synth lines.

'Airutra' is up next - a thick, pulsing groove with shuffling percussion that evolves into a true late night burner during its eight and a half minutes.

'Keep It Easy' closes the EP - a powerful, driving rhythm track that's cleverly counterbalanced with an inventive melodic loop. All three tracks are testament to Resmann’s continued presence at the forefront of house's cutting edge.

Tim Engelhardt & BOg - ALMA 

Poker Flat go right for the jugular again with this blazing collaborative EP from the duo Tim Engelhardt (@timengelhardt) & BOg (@bogmusicoff).

Engelhardt in one of the hottest talents around, forging a hugely prolific carrier already from his home base in Cologne, Germany. Just recently Tim released his debut album 'Moments of Truth' on Poker Flat followed by a remix EP.

Teaming up with the hugely talented Bogdan Tanase (BOg) from Romania, the boys put together a strong musical statement.

'Synchronicity' sets out the stall - driving, powerful tech house with a sense of class and restraint. The energy is teased through-out the track, pulling from the tight rhythm and expressing itself with dramatic, moody synths - interwoven into a slick whole.

'Alma' also showcases the pair’s ears for dynamics - each element in the track perfectly crafted and mixed - the result is an emotional dancefloor experience that’s more than the sum of its parts.

Turning up the heat, 'Astronauts' kicks of with a thumping groove that builds and mutates across the track - resulting in a driving, powerful weapon for a multiple of situations.

Similarly, 'Celsius' fits right into this release - yet another cut of driven, melodic tech balancing primal rhythmic energy with expressive melody.

Tim Engelhardt & BOg - Synchronicity

It shouldn’t come as a surprise that Applescal is the next in line for a release on DGTL Records, seeing as he has been part of the crew since day one, with multiple appearances at their shows to his name. The Atomnation label-head crafts out three tracks all coming from one single studio jam, aptly naming them Harmony One, Harmony Two and Harmony Three. The record is a special one for Applescal himself as well, as it’s his first full EP in two years.

The EP starts off with Harmony One, a dubby and bass heavy track with a subtle vocal sample. It steadily builds up towards a more energetic part with synth stabs and heavy snares, while the pads in the background still make it keep its atmospheric feel. As all three tracks come from the same studio jam, it’s obvious that this was the start of the session, serving as the basis for the other two tracks.

The second one, Harmony Two, was previously part of an Atomnation sampler and received a lot of great feedback, as well as airplay from a few big names in the industry. It builds around an arpeggio that playfully progresses and intensifies towards the break, where a raw synth is layered on top for the climax. With a more subtle bassline, but multiple rhythmic elements that add a proper swing, it makes an essential peak-time tune.

The flipside brings Harmony Three, which distinctly sounds as the final part of the studio jam. Hard hitting synth stabs and a rolling bassline set the track apart as the heavier hitter of the three, while still clearly building on the overall theme. It features an arpeggio that progresses along the break and into the main part, with sharp drum samples and tense synths. It wraps up this release perfectly.

Premiere: Atelier - Something To Fill An Hour (SBTH Instrumental) [Lossless]

Andrew Grant & Lomez are no strangers to My Favorite Robot Records, having provided one of the highlights of last years ‘Sixth Stimulus Package’ in the shape of the excellent ‘Oshno’. Now they are back with a new EP that is set to cement their position as part of the MFRR stable.

Individually the pair have achieved much in dance music circles; Andrew is a resident for superclub Circoloco, has released on labels such Plastic City, Connect Four & Barraca and set up his own EDEC & Blau Motif imprints, Baltimore resident Lomez has toured the world as a DJ, recorded for MFRR & Little Helper and has music lined up on the super hot Hypercolour label amongst others.

The ‘Has To Be Love EP’ is a superb package featuring three brand new tracks from the duo as well as a remix from rising Crosstown Rebels star Amirali. The record opens with the entrancing strains of ‘Distant Thunder’, a wonderfully hypnotic deep and techy house affair that fuses subtle melodies with fluttering bass and rolling drums to create a record with real feeling. Second of the three originals comes in the shape of title track ‘Has to be Love’, journeying into eighties tinged electro territory with its Human League-esque drums and soaring synths playing host to the heavily effected vocals, sublime stuff. Next we have ‘Be Free’ which sees the pair drop the tempo and deliver a laid back and soulful gem.

To round off the package My Favorite Robot have handed remix duties to current Crosstown Rebels hot property Amirali who takes time out from the promotion of his debut album to deliver a wonderful reinterpretation of ‘Has to be Love’. The drums are stripped back, the parts twisted up and the record is reimagined as a sonic soundscape existing on the outer reaches of our known electronic universe, beautiful stuff.

Andrew Grant & Lomez have delivered another sterling record and have added a record to the My Favorite Robot Record catalogue that is sure to stand the test of time, enjoy.
