Romanian DJ/producer BOg returns on John Digweed’s legendary Bedrock imprint with his single, ‘Rakuten’. With releases on Crosstown Rebels, Bedrock Records and a upcoming release on Get Physical, this 24 years young artist already managed to get himself a respected place in the international house scene. 

‘Rakuten’ perfectly showcases what the young Romanian is capable of. A dreamy 9 minute storyteller which slowly builds to it’s peak. It’s easy to hear why this track get's heavily played by John Digweed himself. Already released on vinyl, the digital release is set for the 17th of July on Bedrock Records.

The white walls were illuminated by the glow of the morning sun. They appeared a stark contrast to the royal blue texture of the sky which radiated warmth in the early hours. Birds soared eagerly upon the breeze above the water down below as the flickering leaves of palm trees blew gracefully in the wind. It was a beautiful scene, like something from a picture book or postcard. Soon this would all be gone.

The Rapture’s Luke Jenner ventures firmly into the dance floor, this time in full force, on Glittering Jewel, the Brooklyn-based producer’s debut EP under his Meditation Tunnel guise. 

Following his initial outing, La La La, on Life and Death’s vinyl-only sub-label, Blitz Series, Glittering Jewel sees Jenner step up with three outsider cuts, dripping in personality.

Cloaked subtly into the backdrop, Jenner’s unmistakable croon features throughout the disk - a highlight across the board. While dilapidated drum machines, crunched beyond recognition, propel the record into techno territory, Glittering Jewel retains the artist’s bespoke youthful sense of blue-eyed naiveté.

Red Axes come through with an unclassifiable, stripped-down reinterpretation of Fire Fly, the perfect pair to deconstruct and re-contextualize the original material.

Meditation Tunnel - Silent Son (Original Mix)

Finnish producer Jori Hulkkonen needs little introduction, having been at the heart of the electronic music scene for the best part of two decades, recording for legendary labels such as F Communication & Turbo. 2012 saw the highly respected Mr Hulkkonen team up with one of the hottest labels around, Toronto’s My Favorite Robot Records for the release of his latest long player ‘Negative Time’. Now Jori and the label’s A&R team have compiled a stunning selection of remixes created from some of the highlights of the album.

The package kicks off with ‘Step Aside feat Harri Falck(Phonogenic remix)’, a track that sees fellow Finnish producer Tuomas Salmela AKA Phonogenic take the reins and create a pulsing, acidic version that is simply stunning. Next up MFRR stable mate Fairmont gets to grips with ‘Liquid Hologram feat JiiHoo’, turning in mix which steps further into the acid area with a full blooded 303 workout. The Scandinavian connection is picked up once again as Denmark’s Kasper Bjorke gives his interpretation of ‘Vile Talk feat JiiHoo’ offering up an excellent disco tech fusion that does justice to the original song.

Entering the second half of the package we have Of Norway taking apart ‘Do It feat Olga Kouklaki’ and reimagining it as a stripped and spacious slice of techy house with real electronic soul. The penultimate cut sees up and coming artist Sync Mode remix ‘Technowater’ into a taught, bass driven groove that draws on twisted vocal parts and some sterling drum programming. Finally we get a dub version of the opening mix from Phonogenic bringing a Larry Heard-esque vibe to bear in a very good way.
A superb package of mixes that truly do justice to Jori Hulkkonen’s brilliant originals, enjoy!

But here we are – in the year 2020 which will probably go down in history as the most difficult period ever for club culture. But we won’t stop doing what we’re doing. Music is our oxygen. The TOTAL series has always been like KOMPAKT’s yearbook and to say it with the late Frank Sinatra: It was a very good year. Our family of artists delivered a strong heterogeneous mix of uplifting sounds, from the lush reveries of ROBAG WRUHME and SOELA to the stark primetime bangers of MARC ROMBOY or ANNA & KITTIN and everything in between. Notable new entries to our crew are the Londoner KIWI with his wonderfully careless “Hello Echo” that picks up the camp disco vibes Justus Köhncke made a staple in our repertoire. Amsterdam’s DAVID DOUGLAS delivers an appetizer for a full course meal. His quirky pop approach sits comfortably between fellow dutchmen WEVAL’s abstract beats and AGENTS OF TIME’s opulent Italo Disco. YOTAM AVNI blends Detroit techno with new age jazz that reminisces the sound of ECM artists like Jan Garbarek or John Surman. The man with the hat, KÖLSCH also picks up jazzier notes in his very own big room style. Youngblood JONATHAN KASPAR appears twice, fortifying his status as one of the hottest beat smiths of our hometown Cologne. TOTAL wouldn’t be TOTAL without our permanent staff present in full force.
