The white walls were illuminated by the glow of the morning sun. They appeared a stark contrast to the royal blue texture of the sky which radiated warmth in the early hours. Birds soared eagerly upon the breeze above the water down below as the flickering leaves of palm trees blew gracefully in the wind. It was a beautiful scene, like something from a picture book or postcard. Soon this would all be gone. 

Deepwave are set to release a new EP from Sebastian Deluca, however it was the remix from label boss Ian Metty which caught our upmost attention.

It’s been two years since Stefan Z last released on this label, but the three tracks he serves up prove the wait has been more than worth it.

The Berlin based Canadian is the boss of the Rhombus label and is a top electronic production talent. He makes his sounds stand out with slick vocals or moving melodic elements, most likely because of his formally trained piano and trumpet playing skills. He’s had support from the likes of Sasha, Solomun and Adriatique, and his label parties in Vancouver were key in developing the city’s underground scene.

The super title track goes first and is a freaky number with spacecraft circling the groove, building tension in the melodic riffs and futurism in the drums. It’s a dramatic track with heavy, lumpy kicks and one to jolt the floor into action.

‘Borni’ is another long and involving tune, this time with more mystery and suspense in the way it builds. The drums get you marching as synths and ghoulish motifs pan about to creepy effect. It’s a real set building track that keeps you on edge.

Lastly, ‘Cipe’ is the toughest of the lot, with stiff hits and withering cosmic chords speaking of an intergalactic war. Underpinned by warm bass, it’s a widescreen cinematic affair with real beauty in the pads that eventually take over the show.

All three tracks here are mini epics that really take you on a trip.

The Rapture’s Luke Jenner ventures firmly into the dance floor, this time in full force, on Glittering Jewel, the Brooklyn-based producer’s debut EP under his Meditation Tunnel guise.

Cloaked subtly into the backdrop, Jenner’s unmistakable croon features throughout the disk - a highlight across the board. While dilapidated drum machines, crunched beyond recognition, propel the record into techno territory, Glittering Jewel retains the artist’s bespoke youthful sense of blue-eyed naiveté.

Red Axes come through with an unclassifiable, stripped-down reinterpretation of Fire Fly, the perfect pair to deconstruct and re-contextualize the original material. 

Carefully pressed on high-quality, transparent vinyl, LAD039 stands as a testament to the label’s shifting auditory ethos.

"Beam Me Up" (featuring Charlene Soraia & Scuba) is the first official single from the debut album <i>Getting Closer</i> by Close, a new production alias from producer, DJ and label owner Will Saul.

The track gets a more ‘floor facing remix from Aus and Hotflush alumni George FitzGerald. Re-interpreting the track with his own meticulous melodic touch, he underpins the whole thing with raw, stomping drums and a guttural bassline.

Two decades. Twenty years. Twenty compilations. Over 400 tracks. Over two days of total playing time and countless coloured dots. If someone would have told us in 1999, when we put together TOTAL 1 that this would turn into one of the longest standing compilation series in techno world we would have laughed out loud. But here we are – in the year 2020 which will probably go down in history as the most difficult period ever for club culture. But we won’t stop doing what we’re doing. Music is our oxygen. The TOTAL series has always been like KOMPAKT’s yearbook and to say it with the late Frank Sinatra: It was a very good year. Our family of artists delivered a strong heterogeneous mix of uplifting sounds, from the lush reveries of ROBAG WRUHME and SOELA to the stark primetime bangers of MARC ROMBOY or ANNA & KITTIN and everything in between. Notable new entries to our crew are the Londoner KIWI with his wonderfully careless “Hello Echo” that picks up the camp disco vibes Justus Köhncke made a staple in our repertoire. Youngblood JONATHAN KASPAR appears twice, fortifying his status as one of the hottest beat smiths of our hometown Cologne. TOTAL wouldn’t be TOTAL without our permanent staff present in full force. 11 - Different Marks - You Help Me feat. Nnaji

Juho Paalosmaa and Jori Hulkkonen are Sin Cos Tan, “a synthesized duo of great promise, broken dreams, and long nights” who released their critically acclaimed self-titled debut album in November 2012 to a great reception. During the summer the band will be finishing their follow-up album planned for release later in 2013, but in the meantime My Favorite Robot enlist some big time remixers to tackle the duo’s back catalogue, with Mark E and Kris Wadsworth those given the nod.
 
‘Not Over’ is the first track to get a treatment from slo-disco specialist and Ghostly associate Mark E (it also comes in a dub version). He breaks the track down to crunchy claps and a slowly stepping, thick synth bass line that percolates up through the track over and over. The airy vocals remain in tact from the original as nebulous melody lines and sultry saxophones float around in cosmic harmony. 
 
It’s then the turn of Berlin based Atlanta born bad boy Kris Wadsworth to re-interpret ‘History’, and he does so with his usual panache. The lines are all skewed, the textures raw and unpolished and the mood edgy as crackles of hiss and static pollute the airwaves whilst heavy, lumped drums kick below. Things grow increasingly lively with the dancing synthesized melodies that appear part way in to the track and also release some tension. The vocal takes on a more haunted characteristic in Wadsworth’s hands 
 
Finally, we’re also treated to an Extended Dance mix of the militant tech house stomper that is ‘Trust’ with its loose percussion, taught bassline grumbles and celestial, skyward melodies. The breakdown is shrouded in echo and as a result the vocal drifts on air before the track kicks again in a macho nu disc style akin to the sort of thing Andrew Weatherall might employ. 
 
Some fine A&R here has breathed plenty of new life into some already classic tracks by Sin Cos Tan.

The Toronto based label is an offshoot of the act “My Favorite Robot” formed earlier in 2002 by Jared Simms and Voytek Korab.

The label has managed to consistently release quality music by some of the electronic dance world’s most renown producers such as H.O.S.H, Kenny Glassgow, Jori Hulkkonen, Eric Volta, Sasse, Fairmont, Tiger Stripes, Tim paris, Chymera, Sid Le Rock, Tim Green, Clarian, and My Favorite Robot themselves just to name but a few and there is no slowing down for them!
