Portugal's esteemed producer Tiago dropped the beautiful and aspirational Sea power & Change EP last year, and now the ESP Institute is delighted to deliver its counterpart, the Remixed version. On side A, the Soft Rocks gang takes the eerie Strangefruit for a ride with an 80s dubby approach, speeding it up slightly and throwing in a smack of a snare, only to be followed by a Secret Circuit (Eddie Ruscha of Laughing Light of Plenty) version of Wild Combination that juxtaposes wobbly synths and guitars in a slighly spaghetti-western vibe. All is gravy once the record flips and we sink into the Jonny Nash (of Sombrero Galaxy) remix of Yesterday Is Dead. This is one of those remixes you can't link to the original no matter how hard you try, but why try when what you have is such a melted blissed out lo-fi masterpiece on your hands? Everything Nash touches is gold... consider yourself touched.

Uh oh! Here we have last years ridiculously massive Backwoods tracks remixed by ESP Institute's bad boys. The Stallions (Lovefingers and Lee Douglas) take DJ Kent's hit Cloud Nine to the church of RAVE to meet a dirty Belfast gospel that will turn your trout-pout upside down and leave your feet bleeding. Just try to find a room big enough to hold this 12 minute monster! On the flip, Cos/Mes tropify the Backwood's album opener Awakening in a stylee that has become their signature, lush and loopy. This is a special collaboration between Tokyo's ENE Records and ESP... don't sleep!

The tracklisting follows its predecessor verbatim, however every track is re-contextualized so wildly that we're left with a beautifully obtuse yet complimentary rendering. The personnel employed vary in style and technique drastically, but such is the ethos of Soft Rocks, and furthermore the ESP Institute. At the end of the day, we implore you to shut up and listen.

On this 12" (the first of 4 surrounding The Revenge of Soft Rocks remix album) we're treated with a serious disco belted version of Talking Jungle as reworked by JUSTIN VANDERVOLGEN (TBD, Golf Channel, DFA, etc, etc) and an insanely serene take on Obo by ESP favorite TIAGO (Sea Power & Change, Gala Drop, DFA, etc, etc)... good lord this is quite a piece of wax!
