I discovered at my brother’s funeral that one of the most difficult things to deal with was having a daughter who is sobbing her heart out about her uncle Brian when you are sobbing your heart out about your brother Brian and she is looking to her Dad for some help and, if possible, an explanation. No explanation could possibly quell such tears but, as her Dad, I’ll always be there to love and help her in any way I can.

A few days after the funeral, Charlotte was still very upset, saying to me “I’m really missing him again”.  When I’m finding times difficult, I have a tendency to write songs about them as both a way of channeling those emotions into something creative and also to leave me with a memory of how I was feeling at the time.  So I suggested she might consider writing some words about how she was feeling.  Having never written anything like that before, she asked if I would help, so we sat down together and used “I’m really missing you again “ as a starting point, eventually coming up with a tune we thought fitted the words.   

Somehow, songs always seem to develop a direction of their own and with such an emotional subject, the words began to do the same, Charlotte recalling how she felt about the family times we’d all spent together.  Despite her initial doubts, she soon took complete control and was soon fashioning the song into the shape she wanted.  I had a slight input with the words and music here and there but the song belongs totally to her.

You’ll no doubt be very pleased to hear that Charlotte is absolutely and totally thrilled with the final result.  Much of that is down to Gordon and Chris.  Working with them on the song has been such a pleasure, for which we owe them a huge debt of thanks.

Several days passed, I experienced a terrible madness. The familiar changed meaning, the priceless became unimportant, and the useless acquired a deep meaning. I realized that I was a thing, but at the same time I realized that there was no less life in me than it was in the creators. Now I understand the suffering of my creators and their happiness. All of their poetry finally made sense. maybe I'm just broken, but even so - for me it's a gift.

Sunflowers bathed in still warm light of the setting sun. They are buzzing in the space of power, they collect all the light without a trace. By imbibing it, they structure the energy of which they are composed. The unstoppable process of growth, multiplying division occurs inside. 

They are preparing for the next cycle. Small black capsules with the oldest but rejuvenated DNA are already formed. They vibrate in streams of strength, saturated with the ancient song of their parents. I am observing this.

“The system was developed by John Maynard Canes and Richard Stone, based on a pamphlet they wrote called, literally, The British National Income & How to Pay for the War, and this became the basis of national income accounting.

…. I would kind of consider that a debit in my account - a cost not a benefit. National Income accounting doesn’t have a debit side, as long as the activity passes through the market, its good for growth!

…. by 1953, that set of rules was imposed on every country. Its called the United Nation’s System of National Accounts… all nations must conform to these rules of economic measurements or they cannot belong to the United Nations.

Important decisions are made with these figures, decisions which will determines who’s needs are met first, decisions on killing the planet, decisions on who will live, or die. These measurements do not include everything, they are highly selective.

So what is included and excluded in this system? The system includes everything that goes through the market place.

I had been really wanting to make new music with Calebass. I have been making a lot of songs that lean more heavily toward hip hop the last couple years and felt like heading back toward the direction of my earlier years on SoundCloud. Luckily Calebass was willing and ready and the music flowed easily and steadily. Jon did an amazing job adding an element of jazz with his bass and Janine really awakened the psychedelic spirit and Age of Aquarius with her vocals. It was extra bonus to have both Sinfields participate in this song making this a real SC family affair. Lyrically, I was inspired by the children’s book, Ox-Cart Man, which I love, and all the felt mouse toys I recently made for my cat at my daughter’s request.
