What is the sound of feeling?

In physics, we conceive of sound as waves. Vibrations, undulations, physical manifestations: heard but not seen. Borne by the body, but interpreted in the brain.

Within ourselves, we perceive emotion as waves, too. Rolling in, rolling out: tidal, even. In moments of violet intensity, the depth of our feeling crashes upon us like surf, rip currents on a corporeal beach.

Worlds apart, but waves in kind. For musician and composer Jo Johnson, the veil between is diaphanous indeed. What you hear is what you feel. Listen and uncover.

Caracteres first release comes from the hand of Ópalo, an Ecuadorian project named after the gemstone associated with the sacral chakra. It is said it has properties to moderate and harmonize sexual desires and balance problems with addictions. In some cultures it is believed that Opal is a symbol of hope, purity and truth.

La Edad Invisible is Ópalo's first release and first LP. The idea of the project is to share fine cuts of electronica, ambient and idm, heavenly influenced by the 90's trip-hop scene. Ópalo is a fictional electronic band, which uses keyboards, drum machines and synthesizers to create contemporary pieces of music. The name of the album is given after an abstract idea of an age the artist didn't want to be noticed, and also the age that is not noticeable in physical characteristics.

The album starts off with two laid back tunes, inspired in the melancholy and sadness that the artist experimented during a family conflict. As the album evolves, ambient pieces serve as interlude for new instrumental nocturne tracks. Some of this pieces where composed for video art and then included as part of the LP.

An important part of the development of the album is the continuous collaboration with the visual artist Joaquin Dávila, which asked Romero to put some music together for his video art projects. He also designed and composed the image of the artwork, giving the album a unique concept.

Atoloi is the project of Milan/Italy based Matteo Ghiringhelli and we are happy that he accepted invitation to our podcast series.

As a devotee of nature, Atoloi explores sound creating a mellow amalgam of layers using echoing synths, processed field recordings, and self-created samples; all mixed in a lysergic experience of heavy-grained noises and evocative instrumental compositions.
Not sticking only to canon club-oriented sonorities, instead, his productions and mixes search for other depths, in which the listener can get lost in a dense "no boundaries" journey for the body and the mind. 

Atoloi will be one of the performer at Transforma festival 2023, just in case if you would like to catch him around.

Sub Accent is one of Johan Bonnefoy's aliases born in 2015, this avatar represents music that borrows its references from the futurism of first-generation Detroit techno to the acid groove of Dutch Electro, Viewlexx, and others, to the hypnotic depth of the Italian deep scene, to the mechanical and cold aspect of the German pioneers, to the roughness of the experiments of Zoviet France, Einsturzende Neubauten, and other electronic punk. Released on renowned labels such as Concrete Records, BokhHri, Noorden, Kvltö Records and countless V/As, Sub Accent does not hesitate to mix styles According to his desires, and composes on his modular synthesizers and other machines that he has been collecting for over twenty years, producing rich and varied sounds between raw, deep, dub Hnd experimental.

Founder of the label Accents Records since 2014, he continues to scout the young talents of this flourishing scene, the label counts today twenty-five releases on vinyl, cassette, and digital formats and gathering internationally renowned artists and rising figures such as Hydrangea, Zesknel, Evitceles, Zadig, Simone Bauer, Forest On Stasys, Josef Gaard... Mysteries of the Deep is a New York-based record label, podcast, and event series — focused on ambient & experimental music in various forms. Mysteries — as fans lovingly call it — is concerned with exploration of unknown realms, and its focus, in addition to showcasing a dynamic spectrum of electronic music from foremost artists in the field, is to thoughtfully engage its audience. 

Conceptualized in 2011, Mysteries began as a podcast series that, now in its eleventh year, has hosted an array of mixes and original works. The project has since evolved, expanding into a curated global event series and record label.
