Since I can't find any spare 'producing' time at all at the moment I decided to finish the most promising and advanced. deap blue arabica was my first catch. I like it at the moment and I hope, the vocal timings don't seem to random. The time it took for placing the vocals and instrumentals was as short as possible and as long as necessary to make it work. In order to make it as perfect as possible that would be propably 9-10 times the time.

I decided to play around with a couple of synths, a bit of MIDI, a handmade BEW pedal and see what happened. This is the result.
In the process I taught myself a couple of new things about recording too.
I got to the end of the lyrics and realised I really ought to have rewritten the first verse but time was not on my side. So have at thee.

The Overall Immobility of Things

This week's work is the theme for the protagonist of a dystopian sci-fi movie. Sump is a lot like Rick Deckard.
I'm not sure if the reprise is used for the trailer, i.e. for a montage, or for the final moments of the film as Sump stares into his melting ice-cubes recalling the details he hasn't shared with anyone.

I decided to assemble a track that has been sitting in bits & pieces gathering dust, and apply some of the things I've learned so far to  the arrangement and production.

I'd intended the song to have lyrics, but I've come round to the idea of it being an instrumental, using guitars & synths to highlight the vocal melody. Also my falsetto disappeared about 15 years ago, so my vocals were never gonna work ;)

This piece, number 24, started off inspired by Black Heart Procession, but then traveled through Gravenhurst and latter day Nick Cave. Once again, it's a bit dark.
Becca Allen joined in on backing vocals and autoharp.

YOKOMONO is stopped for some time, but this is a nice recording. The old setup for the YOKOMONO live concert version consists of 10 vinyl killers – toy car record players, each customised with its own fm transmitter. For these killers we made three different loop records (locked groove records) with 55 loop on each side and we are now working on a new record for Yokomono.  The sound will come through a set of radios that receives the signal transmitted by the vinyl killers You might think Yokomono is just a DJ set with 10 turntables, and in a way that is correct but in many more ways Yokomono is completely different. First of all; each killer is mono and has pour sound quality, but much more Yokomono is very hard to handle, you can not really select a track or make it stop when you want to, its more putting the needle down blindfolded. The real difference starts when you realise each killer runs on batteries, meaning the speed is unstable and it will slow down during the concert, the fact that the batteries run out will not only effect the speed but it will effect the fm frequency that the killer is transmitting too.

Lately I rummaged through my harddrive and found an old track I recorded 10 years ago. That was when I startet using a DAW to record. As always when trying out something new I did some blues chords and improvised over them. Now I rediscovered this old recording and my wife told me that it's not that bad ;).
So searched for that old daw-project and loaded it. Some of the plugins I used back then were missing so I added ezdrummer and a bass plugin, and a new vst-amp on the guitar track. I do not have the guitar I used anymore. I think it was a Washburn.
So, here's the result. As always, feel free to comment etc.

I was inspired by the wind in Branka Kantas beautiful track "The Wind Of The Wolf". After I had listen to his track I knew that I wanted to make something "stormy" so I composed the hefty part immediately. It has also been very fun to play with electronic sounds. Hope you like the result.
