It’s been 3 weeks, and I’m still vibrating - still a little incredulous about playing live at Kater Blau, a venue that has been on my bucket list since it was still called Kater Holzig. It’s home to so many great artists I admire, a place that has long extended its magic beyond Berlin’s borders, and I am so honored to have had the opportunity to fill it with my music. 

I’ve been thinking about putting my live set together for a long time, so when the opportunity to premier it at Kater knocked on my door, it was crunch time. 2 months to conceptualize, dissect, render, rehearse - most of that time was spent on figuring out what doesn’t work. Many times I thought about changing to a DJ-Set instead, but ultimately, and last minute as always, I got to a point where I felt comfortable enough to take it out of my little garage studio here in Brooklyn all the way to my home country’s capital. 

These two hours on the Heinz Hopper floor went by lightning fast, and it all feels a little dreamlike still. Of course it wouldn’t be a live set without a few hiccups here and there (see if you can spot my „launching a whole scene, instead of just one clip“-mistake in the early part of the set haha), but I think that’s what makes it come alive in the first place. I learned so much from this experience, and got back to my studio/garage with plenty of ideas on how to grow from here. I want this to be a malleable work-in-progress, evolving together with me - unique, non-repeatable, moment-capturing, responsive, alive. 

Thank you to everyone to came out and got hot and sweaty with me on the hottest weekend in Berlin, literally and figuratively. A warm welcome indeed.

Deisen *live @ Kater Blau | Circles and Stones Summer Solstice 2022

Auch im extrem heißen Hochsommer bleiben bei uns extrem hohe bpm-Zahlen aus (im Gegensatz zu extrem heißen Sounds). Aber was ist schon hoch? Was heiß? Was schnell? Inspiration für sein Set sammelte unser Guest Artist und gleichzeitig herzallerliebster Freund der Schleichend-Familie @francesco_rizzi bei einem ‚entschleunigenden‘ Ausflug ins Grüne. Wenn dieses Kollektiv nicht sowieso ‚Schleichend‘ hieße, so könnte man vorschnell schlussfolgern, diesem Cast die Entschleunigung aus der Naturerfahrung anzuhören. Doch das wäre ohnehin zu kurz gefasst, denn gleichzeitig wohnt diesem Mix eine vorwärtstreibende Tiefe inne, die sich fast unbemerkt - gar schleichend - aufbaut und nach hinten raus ihren Peak erreicht. Jene Menschen, die nichts mit Downtempo am Hut haben (soll’s ja geben), würden bei solchen Beschreibungen in Zusammenhang mit Sounds unter der 115-bpm-Schwelle wohl verständnislos mit dem Kopf schütteln und weiter stampfen. Bei begnadeten Bummeltechno-Fans lassen die besagten Peak-Momente dagegen möglicherweise ekstatisch anmutende Dancefloor-Momente vor dem inneren Auge erscheinen, während sie in der U-Bahn Schleichcast°31 lauschen. Die Außenwelt wird nie davon erfahren, höchstens ein zu passioniertes Kopf- oder Fuß-Mitwippen könnte den Kopfkino-Slowrave verraten.  

Das Fazit: Nun ja, alles ist eben mal wieder subjektiv, sogar die Wahrnehmung von Geschwindigkeit. Doch wir lehnen uns mal weit aus dem Fenster und sagen, eine Sache ist objektiv, und zwar: Dieses Set ist grandios, ziemlich grandios sogar!

Hello, ich bin der Francesco. Momentan wohne ich in Berlin und komme ursprünglich aus dem schönen Karlsruhe.

>>Wie kamst du zum Auflegen?
Das Auflegen kam quasi zu mir.
Ein schleichender Prozess welcher sich über die letzten Jahre hinweg ergeben hat. :)

>>Was mich für das Set inspiriert hat?
Ich denke, dass die größte Inspiration, oder besser gesagt der größte Einfluss das Abstand nehmen gewesen ist. Die letzten Monate habe ich das schnelle Leben etwas zurück geschraubt und mich ins Grüne verzogen. Das war äußerst entschleunigend. :)
 
>>Was gefällt dir besonders an "langsamer" Musik?
An langsamer Musik gefällt mir besonders die Vielzahl an facetten.
Ob druckvoll, deep, vorwaerts oder chillig vetraeumt und verbimmelt, da ist einfach immer was dabei. :)

Überhaupt & Außerdem @ Lusatia 2022

(Story continued from Witchtape #130)
It was late August and still the unprecedented drought (which started back in June) showed no signs of ending.  In the witch’s forest several wells had dried up and some trees were even shedding their brown leaves.  Many herbs, animals and insects had died because of a lack of water.  It was a very tough summer for the forest dwellers.  But on that day Hekske (the little witch), Falke (the 10-year old witch apprentice) and Lalita (the Asian tree nymph) decided it was time for action and started the preparations for a rain dance.  But just as they were about to shuck off their clothes and start dancing, Bob The Owl landed on Hekske’s hand.  He had an urgent message to convey, as a visitor had just entered the forest.  And he was not human, which is why the guard animals didn’t chase him away (like they always do with human intruders).  Hekske told Bob to show their guest the way.  And 15 minutes later, the girls welcomed their guest.  He was obviously a wizard, as he was wearing a long black cloak.  He looked very young, just a teenager.  His shiny skin was soft and pale, in contrast with his black hair and mesmerizing black eyes.  He was obviously very shy, as it was the first time he ever saw a witch or nymph.  Lalita immediately prepared oriental herbal tea to welcome their guest.  A little later, they all sat down in a circle on the soft moss and introduced themselves while sipping tea.  The boy appeared to be only 13 years of age and he came from the area of Mount Damavand on the southern side of the Caspian sea.  He introduced himself as Esfandiar (اسفنديار,) - a Persian name which means ‘pure creation’.  The little witch got very curious as she had never met a witch or wizard from that part of the globe.  Then she asked whether he knew a magic spell to make rain.
At first the young wizard was clueless, but then he suddenly remembered the small flacon which an old Persian leopard had given him back in the Caspian Hyrcanian forest.  He took the small bottle in his hand and sensed the energy.  Esfandiar felt that this mysterious liquid could bring a solution, but the leopard hadn’t explained how to use it.
Then the young wizard took his magic wand.  It was made from a special kind of wood from the Caspian Hyrcanian forest and looked very unusual.  It also felt very unusual.  Falke was surprised how soft the wood was, while in complete contrast Hekske found it unusually hard, despite touching exactly the same area of the stick.  So this fascinating wand was soft and hard at the same time.  The girls had never felt such a thing.  Then Esfandiar’s attention turned back to the little flacon.  He sensed that it was time to open it.  All she girls could smell the powerful fragrance … a delicate mix of zaaferon (saffron), golpar (persian hogweed) and zardchoobeh (turmeric).  Then the young wizard let one drop fall on the ground.  It immediately produced a small white cloud.  Then Esfandiar got an idea. He poured the remaining liquid on his magic wand, which he pointed towards the sky.  For a few seconds nothing happened but then all of a sudden the wand took off and flew straight into the sky with a loud hissing sound, like a rocket.  Finally it exploded into a large white cloud high in the sky.  Within seconds, there was the rumbling sound of thunder while the cloud grew bigger and darker…

Als Mitglied der Crew @ost_end und wohnhaft in Leipzig, treibt sie schon seit einiger Zeit ihr musikalisches Herum-wesen in verschiedensten Clubs und Festivals, immer in der Lage ein Lächeln auf die Gesichter in der crowd zu zeichnen. 🌸 Fühlst du dich wohl in Leipzig? 

Oh ja! Leipzig ist meine absolute Wahlheimat und ich könnte mir keine schönere Stadt zum Leben vorstellen. Als ich vor 5 Jahren zum ersten Mal dort war, war ich direkt total begeistert und diese Begeisterung hat bis heute nicht abgenommen. Und ich sehe immer noch ein großes Potential in der Stadt und finde es spannend, wie sich entwickelt. 
Außerdem habe ich mit dem Ostend eine großartige Crew in Leipzig gefunden, für die ich sehr dankbar bin.

🌸 Welche Sache hast du diesen Sommer über dich gelernt? 
Ich hatte so viele einprägsame und schöne Momente - jede Menge auf jeden Fall. Unter anderem habe ich zum Beispiel gelernt, dass es ein gutes Zeitmanagement braucht, wenn man ein Masterstudium und das Auflegen gut unter einen Hut bekommen will 😁

🌸 Wie und was isst du am liebsten zum Frühstück? 
Mit einem guten Obstmüsli kann man morgens nichts falsch machen!

📀 Mit dem Bus durch Mexiko 📀

✍️ Um innerhalb Mexikos zu reisen verwendet man entweder den Flieger, ein „Collectivo“ oder einen Reisebus. Entsprechend der finanziellen Mittel und der Entfernung sollte die Entscheidung für eines dieser Verkehrsmittel getroffen werden. Am unkompliziertesten ist zumeist der Reisebus. Dieser kann online oder direkt ab einem der unzähligen, über das ganze Land verteilten Terminals gebucht werden. Jedoch sollten für eine 8-12 stündige Fahrt gut 50-60€ eingeplant werden. Die Busunternehmen bieten auch Nachtfahrten an. Nimmt man eine solche Fahrt in Anspruch, erreicht man sein Ziel bereits in den frühen Morgenstunden und hat den ganzen Tag am Ankunftsort. Der Schlafkomfort ist jedoch nur mäßig, kann anderseits in der Folgenacht problemlos nachgeholt werden. So oder so sind die Fahrten mit dem Reisebus innerhalb Mexikos sehr praktisch. 

🎵 Der Podcast von K2W0 ist so bunt wie ein Blumenstrauß und so vielschichtig wie ein Chamäleon. Zu Beginn präsentiert sich das Set malerisch-verträumt und im weiteren Verlauf wird es zackiger und gewinnt an Schneid. Scharfe Hats und knurrende Bässe versinken in der Klangfarbe unterschiedlichster Vocals. Ein Podcast dieser Qualität verwandelt gemixte Musikstücke wahrlich in eine durch Frequenzen determinierte Traumreise.
