Michael Cretu, also known as Curly M.C. (born May 18, 1957 in a suburb of Bucharest, Romania), is a Romanian musician best known as the creator of the Enigma project. His original name, Creţu, means "the curly-haired". He has worked with many producers, musicians, and artists in his long career. These include Sandra Cretu, Frank Farian, Boney M, Goombay Dance Band, Peter Cornelius, Manfred "Tissy" Thiers and Mike Oldfield in his pre-Enigma days, and Jens Gad, Frank Peterson, David Fairstein, ATB, Jam & Spoon, Peter Ries, Ruth-Ann Boyle and Andru Donalds during the course of the project.

On December 3, 1990, Enigma released its debut album “MCMXC a.D.”. It was the beginning of an exceptional global success story. A quarter-century later Enigma is launching “Enigma Moments” - an online event to commemorate the project’s 25th anniversary together with you, loyal Enigma fans.

With seven albums released and an eighth one yet to come, Enigma has created many wonderful different musical stories. Thousands of you have shared with us the role Enigma played in their lives. 25 years later we want to bring all these moments together: to share each others’ experiences and, most importantly, tell “your” story of Enigma.

So, we would like to welcome you to add your personal Enigma Moment to our timeline. Also, feel free to browse through other people’s submissions and show your appreciation with a Like. And just to make things even more interesting, we will add to the timeline with things never seen before.

Enigma (musical project)

Enigma is a German new age musical project formed in 1990 by Michael Cretu, David Fairstein and Frank Peterson.The Romanian-born Cretu conceived the Enigma project while working in Germany, but based his recording studio A.R.T. Studios in Ibiza, Spain, from the early 1990s until May 2009, where he has recorded all of Enigma's studio releases to date. Cretu is both the composer and the producer of the project. His former wife, pop singer Sandra, often provided vocals on Enigma tracks. Jens Gad co-arranged and played guitar on three of the Enigma albums. Peter Cornelius also contributed to Enigma during the 1990s.
