This was going to be on my (nearly finished) album but since it'd be the only non-self produced track and there's already songs covering similar topics on there, I'm putting it out on it's own instead.

The title of this song is in reference to Dr Manhattan of Watchmen as this song is about the intense detachment a godlike being would feel from the rest of humanity.

Sumerian Gothic (Lo-Fi as fuck)

Probably the simplest track on the album, a simple extended verse over a sample driven beat. 

The few people who have heard this song prior to it's public release seem to believe it's romantic in nature, the truth is that the song is written from the perspective of a drug addicts father, it's inspired by a real event but not one I've directly witnessed or been involved. Since writing this, I can also apply these lyrics in reference to peoples assumed meanings based on personal events.

David Imitates Goliath

This song was born out of desire both the write a romantic piece, to write a narrative piece and to write a piece full of Lovecraft references, I do all these things again on this album but not at the same time. 

This song takes place in one of the dark fantasy lands that exists in my head and adapts the sadly too real situation of realising the person you spent so long obsessing over is a flawed human being who doesn't care about you. This is filtered through the lens of a knight on shining armour travelling through a demonic fairly tale to climb the princess's tower. 

It's worth noting that someone in the recording studio thought the vocal sample was from Future, it's not but saying who it is would be snitching on myself.

Houses Overlooking The Abyss

This song was inspired by reading an article on Robert E. Howard where he discusses that the ideas for his fantasy stories where all inspired by reoccurring dreams wherein he was a Barbarian in a fantastical world. My deep affinitty for Howards work combined with a late-night watching of Brazil meant that I decided to combine that fact with my own (in the words of Sage Francis) 'complicated case of escapism' to make this song.

This song is about robots. 

The people who've heard this already seem to think it's some dense critque of consumer culture, but it's not. 

I wrote a song about robots making a future humanity obsolete until they leave Earth in face of a nuclear war, it's somewhat Asimov inspired.

Hollow Man Of Iron

I wrote this song in homage to works of one of my favourite authors, H.P Lovecraft, which is rather ironic considering how racist he was. 

The track is written from the perspective of one of the many Eldrich Abominations Lovecraft wrote about and I make many direct allusions to his work throughout.

Let The Record Show

Like Dreams Of Cimmeria, this track is inspired by the trio of the film Brazil, one of my favourite literary works and my own perchance for escapism. 

This time though the literary work is Grant Morrison's All Star Superman, a daring exploration of how to give an ending to a seemingly immortal character. The series revolves around Superman developing cancer and doing all the good he can before he passes away but the main thing about the story that grabbed me was how it portrayed Superman as a detached figure unable to relate to the populace he saved due to his godly powers, which leads to his isolation and growing insecurity, this track is patterned around the concept.

Dreams Of Flight (Superman Sequence)

This track is a stream of consciousness from the perspective of Mr Harrington, protagonist of the novella The Final Gentleman. 

For those unfamiliar, the novella concerns the novelist Mr Harrington who upon finding himself unable to write another book, finds his whole life unravelling from the seams: his nice car has suddenly rusted, his lifelong friends no-longer remember him and his family have vanished from existence. 

The first section of the song covers simply that opening while the first drum change up leads into the middle point of the novella where Mr Harrington first finds that every single place he visits is worse than he remembers but these inhabitants remember him. He then discovers that his only old friend who still remembers him has been involved inside this business and he finally finds his way onto 'his former newspaper of employment where he finds himself headfirst with a machine who has the answer he doesn't want to hear. 

The final segment of the song concerns Harrington learning (spoilers) that he's actually a robot and that his previous memories were implanted artificially so as to give him a literary influence and his happy surroundings were also hallucinatory. After confronting and destroying the machine that created he leaves the building only for his delusions to magically return. 

I created this song out of a desire to homage one of my favourite authors Clifford D Simak and this story in particular always resonated me due to my own feelings of ostracism and paranoid theories about my existence. I also wanted to make a song with drum change ups in place of a hook and this felt like the perfect subject matter to do so being a free-form narrative piece.

The Final Gentlemen

Probably the most direct song on her in-terms of subject manner, it's basically an abstract description of a failed relation. The main inspiration for this is both my own personal life and their mirror in the films Woody Allen and Diane Keaton made together, particularly Manhattan which I sample in this.

It's Not A Wonderful Life

Uploaded this before but I improved the mixing somewhat here (same vocal take)

This is retroactively the first single for my upcoming second album 'Flowers and A Machine'.

Because this song uses alot of abstract imagery, here is a rough explanation of the point of this song.

This is a story told in a very indirect manner, to clarify: When I was about ten years old I moved alongside my mother and sisters from my very middle class, rural upbringing in Sandhurst to my current residence in the (comparatively) rougher and working class Margate. It took me a LONG time to really find any-friends or places to go in this scary new town and spent years wishing I was still living where I grew up; this song is a reflection of that in that.

the song tells a fictional story in which I mystically travel from this world into an alternate reality where I never left my small-town of birth only to find myself in this world (as I now believe would've happened had I remained in Sandhurst) under a much worse state of being. In the final verse I escape back to this life I once thought was so bad.

The message of this song could be summarised as not holding onto the past and realising things must change.
