When I wrote this duet, I had Amanda Sanderson's distinctively beautiful voice in mind. The song itself is an outgrowth or continuation of a poetry collection I published a few years ago, "The Book of Arabella."
Both the song and the poems are about a mysterious, otherworldly woman, Arabella, who feels trapped in a marriage, trapped in fact in her human body.

Morning comes, I stretch in bed, see the sun come through the blinds.
Hear you in the kitchen there, smell the coffee so divine.
I rub my eyes, decide if I can slide into this day,
or maybe spread my wings and softly fly away.
I don’t know why I’m so restless in this world.
It’s like I’m from some country where I can’t return.

CHORUS:
You’re like a cat upon a clock sleeping in the sun,
whiling away your time on earth until our day is done.
Just like a cat upon a clock dreaming through the day
while the world outside goes on and softly spins away.

Twilight comes and I see you in the garden where
the cedars and the pines are your sisters in the sky.
You walk out among the herbs, barefoot on the bricks,
smell the chervil and the thyme that never ask you why.
You’re so lost to me I don’t know what I’ll do.
I’m so in love with every single thing you do.

Verse 4 (Arabella)
Some days I wish that I could go flying through the sky—
spread my wings just like a crow and take off with a sigh.
Somewhere beyond the moon, I think I’ll find my home,
far away from this earth and this house of flesh and bone.

Written from the POV of 8 year old Shade Structure. I had a dream that I had secret powers and a spaceship with an army of kung fu assassins to keep tabs on my school yard bullies.
