Southern Exposure present their first cassette tape Grandma Loves You by Naarm based musician Sicu. 

Sicu’s first official release after publishing sketches and voice memo recordings across years under a seemingly unending group of aliases. Grandma Loves You unveils itself slowly across 15 textured compositions. The music delicately builds through layers of instrumentation and moves into unconventional peaks, highlighting the important and decisive move from Sicu not to confine music to theory.

Recorded across 5 years, the body of work is vehicled by the piano at her family home in Mitcham. In this way, the album was formed through music reconnection, both by making without the pressure of expectation and through returning to play on her childhood piano. Here, along with the accordion and guitar, Sicu expresses a deep connection to her youth, surroundings and family, with a particular focus on her grandma. This debut has evolved into a dedication to her.

Across 44 minutes of wonky and undulating music, Sicu perfectly captures chaos as calm; each new pattern an apparition of an era or place that can be unique for both artist and listener. Entangling instrumentals that reveal artefacts and intricacies which ultimately reward attentive listening, while simultaneously offering space for the mind to wander freely.
