Personally, I would have thought more of a trout or other fish swimming in the translucent wave, against the current.... Your music is always so expressive ....

Enjoying this classical piano piece you wrote.  I am classically trained flute player and this piece with its different movements shows a wide range of musical instruments. Well done.

We often do some quite elaborate percussion ensembles within our songs which can get a little buried under everything else we do. The aim of this release is to highlight some of the more interesting percussion passages in our songs, before you hear the songs themselves. 

Just thought it might be fun to feature these. 

This one has a drum kit, tabla, tambourine, finger bells, finger snaps and claps, and some crowd sound samples.

The Feathered Crown (Percussion Excerpt)

I love improvising and “being in the moment” of creating and playing music at the same time. It’s like taking an impromptu snapshot of a particular point in time, to be remembered later. This work was created late one evening this past week on a very cold, clear evening when the house was warm, quiet and still.  I might revise it in the future, but for now, I like the musical picture and the memory of the peaceful moment it was created.

The Battle of Culloden was a battle fought on April 16, 1746, near Inverness, Scotland. It was the final battle of the Jacobite Rising of 1745, and the last pitched battle on British soil.

The Jacobite army, led by Prince Charles Edward Stuart, fought against the British government army, led by the Duke of Cumberland. 

The Jacobites were defeated, with around 1,600 men killed, mostly Jacobites. 

The British lost only 50 men.

The battle ended the Jacobite Rising and settled a dispute over the monarchy that had lasted almost 60 years.

And they refused to yield

They charged across the boggy ground
That slowed them down
Onwards towards the canon fire
From the redcoat lines

method: to distract me from the everyday task of fighting demons of the mind,  I set out with a gregorian version, only to understand that my voice was not up to standards and expectations. You can still hear that choral in the background. Well, gregorian monks might might have actually sounded like that – not everyone is a pitch creature after all. After postponing some iterations to enjoy creating UP UP AND OUT with Jeff (and assissting in setting the next project on good tracks), I  then added layers to better match what my mind heard to what the headphones belted out. Somehow, I did not let go of the initial composition, though – feeling attached to its disjointed, squealing humanity. Call me sentimental and you’re right. I also just felt like taking this ride on the RC-505, rediscovering my former companion from hitherto unexplored angles ;-) 

Narration: the poem is about an evolution – or a journey to the sea – whatever you prefer to call it. having become aware of the circumstance that I am more of a liability than an asset in certain processes, I found myself in the clutches of a transformation that needed processing itself – and a good deal of sublimation, I guess.
