Why did I feel the need to dive in front of their blow? I cannot answer you. If you are reading this, then my tale is likely over. You likely found this last regard on my corpse. Just some poor kid who died for his friends... twice. Once to let them escape a murderer, and once for a different friend to distract them as they ran for that town that leads to freedom. I was knocked even deeper into the depths, and believed it would end right there, until I entered this horrid place. The wind here eats at my body and soul. Find shelter so that you may last longer than I did. I write this in the hopes that someone reads it, and in my last selfless act I would save one more life.

XM remake from 1997.

I never really cared for this track. The sounds, sampled off a Roland JV-35, were clean and reasonably punchy but also quite flat and annoying. The lead sound was grating, the solo atrocious, and the melody had a childish, irritating quality that has this track firmly on my shitlist. All the more reason to give it a second chance!

First up was deciding what to do about the lead instrument. After some experimentation I found a tweak to my standard "two slightly detuned saws" that brought a bit more motion to it, something needed for all those sustained notes. I also dug into the organ arrangement, trying to pepper some inspiration into the very monotonous chord progressions.

As always with these remakes, it's humbling for me to hear my musical ideas come out with more clarity and purpose, and as per the rule, this is now one of my favorites. I hope it'll be yours too.

Muppet Man

Finally digging back into Elancia on a more regular basis now. That album isn't gonna finish itself.
I did this peaceful little tune when I was a teenager, and promptly forgot about it for about 20 years. Other than some heavy quantizing, I didn't have to do a lot to it, which was nice. I did the part at 1:20 new, as the song kind of didn't really go anywhere the way I'd written it back then. Enjoy!

anyway. no real context behind this track. my mind started wandering quite heavily while i was working on some other music, and i decided to try and sample a variety of my own tracks (WIPs and published stuff) to see what i could throw together, as a creative exercise. gotta get the creativity flowing somehow.

not going on the main account since this is just a sketch - aka, not a track meant to be completed.

for the curious, this contains 'The Killing Wind', 'And Let Slip The Hounds Of War', 'Games Of War', a guitar riff from the upcoming 'Shallow Breath', and two unreleased vocal pieces - 'Our Fortress (Of Smoke And Steel)', and 'The Hammer's Call'. i made the two vocal parts kinda sing in tandem with one another, or i suppose in a sort of call-and-response arrangement.

i like the juxtaposing contrast between the monolithic and many-voiced ignition union theme, ebbing and fading between its own phrases, and the more laid-back and focused summer company theme, singing in (mostly) full sentences. 'The Killing Wind' made for a nice bassy backdrop for this (+ it contains a fragment of 'The Hammer's Call' in and of itself), and the martial themes from the game just seemed to fit the piece's lowkey militaristic vibe.

i spent like... 2 hours hyperfocusing on this track. my bad all,
