Episode 1 of the Pickleball Noise Relief podcast. Our guest speaker is Dr. Lance Willis, Principal Acoustical Engineer with Spendiarian & Willis in Tucson, AZ.  His presentation covers the science of sound and noise impact studies (NIS.) He describes the protocols and standards he follows to collect data and report on the many factors that affect those in close proximity, including background sound levels, topography, vegetation and atmospheric factors. Dr. Willis is a consultant in site planning and noise impact studies which evaluate and predict the impact of noise from proposed pickleball sites, or tennis court conversions, and where appropriate recommends mitigation solutions. Dr. Willis holds a Ph.D. with a Multidisciplinary Certificate in Acoustics from the Georgia Institute of Technology and has worked in professional environmental acoustics, noise control, data acquisition systems, and acoustical instrumentation design. Episode 2 of the Pickleball Noise Relief podcast. Our guest is Bob Unetich who many know is the founder of the Facebook group, Pickleball Sound Mitigation (PSM). He is a USA Pickleball certified referee and the Rules Guru columnist for Pickleball Magazine.  Having launched Pickleball Sound Mitigation, LLC, he and his team consult on evaluating court sites, sound measurement techniques and noise mitigation options around the country. On this call, he will discuss the source of the sound being the ball and paddle, and will describe the advances in equipment design and evolving standards within the industry, including those now being drafted by USA Pickleball. Tackling Pickleball Sound: A Report from the Courts w/ Bob Unetich

Episode 3 of the Pickleball Noise Relief podcast. Our guest is Les Blomberg from Montpelier VT. Les is the founder and Executive Director of the non-profit Noise Pollution Clearinghouse (NPC), a non-profit resource for the general public regarding noise issues. His expertise is noise policy.  For over twenty-five years the mission of NPC has been to create more livable cities and protect rural and wilderness areas by reducing noise pollution at the source. He has written extensively on the subject, published his own research and advises hundreds of communities year round. In this conversation he will share the specifics of crafting and enforcing noise regulations of pickleball. Among the many resources NPC provides to researchers and activists is their Law Library which includes proposed legislation and existing noise laws from federal, state, and municipal sources. He and his family live near Athens, Greece and he has been helping members of the Pickleball Noise Relief group understand the science of sound. Pickleball Noise: Laws Must Change - w/ Panos La

Joe Dinoffer is a nationally recognized supplier of sports equipment, portable nets, training and coaching aids, books, DVDs and YouTube videos. His company, OnCourt OffCourt is celebrating 30 years in the industry. He has written hundreds of articles for trade and sports publications and supplies products for USA Pickleball and other organizations. We first noted Joe as an industry expert from his video series "The Science of Pickleball," in which he compares key differences between pickleball and tennis in terms of the sound of each hit, the average length of a point and the amount of time per hour that balls are played in each sport. Joe has his eagle’s eye on the past, present, and future of both sports. The company is working on developing quieter paddles as part of ongoing efforts to mitigate pickleball noise.
