Romanian DJ/producer BOg returns on John Digweed’s legendary Bedrock imprint with his single, ‘Rakuten’. With releases on Crosstown Rebels, Bedrock Records and a upcoming release on Get Physical, this 24 years young artist already managed to get himself a respected place in the international house scene. 

‘Rakuten’ perfectly showcases what the young Romanian is capable of. A dreamy 9 minute storyteller which slowly builds to it’s peak. It’s easy to hear why this track get's heavily played by John Digweed himself. Already released on vinyl, the digital release is set for the 17th of July on Bedrock Records.

Heavy Rotations Vol 1 is Maeve's first long player. Releasing a compilation has long been an ambition of the label, however time was the key component in producing a record we could all be proud of. The best laid plans can often fall by the wayside, having a clear idea of what you want to achieve with a record like this changes constantly as you collect the pieces of the puzzle and try fit them together in a way that makes sense.

As well as the label founders we started by also inviting friends that had already released on Maeve, to contribute to the compilation. This was a good starting point as each of those artists are all quite different from one another so we felt it could produce some interesting results. There was no brief, just a blank canvas to contribute something they felt belonged on the label. It was also super important for us to use this record as a platform for lesser known artists to showcase their work.

So after 2 years of planning we finally have an 11 track compilation together which will be delivered as a triple vinyl in early June. It is a record that developed and changed a lot over that period but now is something Maeve is very excited to share with the world.

On May 19th we will launch the record at Funkhaus Berlin with a line up compiled of those who contributed to the compilation.

A label made of three key players, Berlin’s SOLIDE recently expanded their family, welcoming fond musical acquaintances into the fold with a various artists compilation; Solid(e) State Vol 1. Resuming form, one third of the core, Kalyma, returns for another solo expedition to the club with his ‘Tanger Night Drive’ EP. Berlin-via-Gran Canaria, Kalyma’s percussive style of club music wields a certain charm. Whisking us away on a pacey drive through the Morrocan night, Kalyma rolls through the deep mysticism of Tangier in the title track; ‘Tanger Night Drive’. A pulsing kick and punky bass, meet the melodious tune of steel pan chimes and whispering crickets in the low-line. Tom rhythms and arpeggios intensify, encapsulating the racey, blissful energy of a night in Tangier. Making a complete U-turn, synth-led ‘Arlequin’ brings real rave emotion. Vibey percussion underpins the experience, whilst a distinct air of grit comes through in dubbed out, euphoric keys. Heart strings tug, souls stir, a second mesmeric piano line seals the deal; all elements combine and compliment. isolée returns to Maeve with his second solo release following the success of 2017's "Mangroove EP". 

Spanning four tracks, "Candy Apple Red EP", shows different sides to the German artists signature micro sound. The A1, "mad marauder" leans on a big room feel while still possessing all the intricacies of production isolée has become known for over his distinguished career. The title track comes on the A2, "candy apple red", a jovial trot through a languid land of disco-house. 

The flip side starts with, "you are", a sub terrain deep house number with all the feels of an isolée cut. Rounding things off on the B2 is "Jordi", a darker trip into the dancefloor, perfect for the small hours.

We welcome to the Kompakt family one of our local Cologne heroes, @jonathankaspar. We’ve appreciated him from afar for some time now thanks to his releases on Crosstown Rebels, Pets Recordings, Ouie and of course our own KX imprint. His single “Renard” was a highlight of our recently released TOTAL 19 collection, so it was time to make our relationship official with a 4 track EP.

Opener “Kern” leads with layers of melodic synths power charged around a playful house rhythm. For the digital release he offers up a Percussion Edit that is intended to bring more depth to the charge.
“Zentrum” is for that peak time pace…elevating melodies caress a swelling mid-tempo beat. Not to mention one of the biggest breakdown’s we’ve had the pleasure to release in some time. We move to “Licht” which literally sounds like it soars, then back to earth comes “Kante” – the most techno inspired track of the EP – an oscillating synth rips through solid low end bass frequencies – with Jonathan Kaspar skillfully demonstrating prime time, peak and valley production.

“Kante EP” brings out his emotive, high energy style of writing and producing in a means that could be pointed to as his best work to date.

It’s 2020, the dusty Pets plain spreads out before you. Nothing but sand, cactus plants and a bottle of good old red eye are all you have for company. Then you hear the shots. They’re fired with such flare they can only be from one man… Renato Cohen AKA the ‘Lone Ranger’
He fires in such a way you can’t help but move your feet. Then you move your hips. Then your head. Then your heart. You’re in funky town now and Renato’s the mayor. He leads with the disco bubbles and slinky restrained funk of ‘Lone Ranger’ before moving on to the heavier weaponry; the cowbell riddled, hoover-rattled stomper ‘Deocleciana’ and the bassline-plunging, deep funk hustling swagger of ‘Bismuth’.
And it seems our lonesome techno patrolman isn’t working alone… ‘Bismuth’ is also backed by an incredible remix from Jennifer Cardini. Ramping up the energy with a precision arpeggio bassline and injecting an entirely different sense of uplift with a lavish synth melody, it shoots from the hip in the most euphoric of ways.
