Nani Castle wrote "Crying In The Dark" as a meditation on modern times. After hearing the Freestyle-influenced beat from longtime collaborator Udachi and feeling overwhelmed by world events, she sat down in her home studio on Staten Island, pouring out lyrics to reflect in a moment of alienation. "People are afraid to show weakness and emotion. Instead, dimly lit screens house our dependance for approval," Nani muses. Digital age language like 'On Fleek,' 'Rari,' and 'Molly,' act as commentary on the viral youthful detachment from true feelings; the collective escapism of our generation. The video, directed by another longtime collaborator & Los Angeles-based artist Dominique Dawson, plays off this narrative as Nani deals her concentrated tears in doses, forcing it's takers to confront deep wounds and reach a higher place.

On remixing duties we have UK's Tanka and San Diego's own Speakerghost. 

Speakerghost gives two distinct takes on the track. One being a deep house journey into groovy California desert parties, the other a heavy 808s breakbeat take reminiscent of early boy8bit. Tanka's Sweat Mix takes us to a whole other dark soundscape, he flips the chorus into an ominous intro before dropping into a dark 2 step rhythm ready to make the subs rattle.
