This short piece was created during Coronavirus lockdown in Sydney, Australia. When I travel to my homelands I regularly go scavenging in the bush for objects- seeds, bones, shells, stones, bottles, feathers etc. When I bring them home I try to make use of them in some way. Late last year I found an emu (Dromaius novaehollandiae), collected its leg bone and made a crude type of whistle with it. The emu is particularly important to me as it is my grandmothers "meat" or totem. I wanted to collect the bone and hear its music, listening to the sound of the animal while paying respects to my grandmother. The track features the Yuwaalraay word for emu "dhinawan" and air and notes being blown through the bone.
