The core of our Milky Way galaxy is densely packed with gas, dust, stars and stellar remnants, but its centerpiece is a monster black hole with a mass of 4 million Suns called Sagittarius A* (pronounced “A-star”). This sonification tracks an image of the galactic center captured by NASA’s Chandra X-ray Observatory.

The translation begins on the left side of the image and moves to the right, with sounds representing the positions and brightness of the sources. Objects located toward the top of the image play as higher pitches, while their brightness determines the volume. X-rays seen by Chandra reveal gas heated to millions of degrees from stellar explosions and outflows from Sagittarius A*.

Of hills mysterious, shadowy, clasping all 
The green and cheerful landscape sweetly spread 
Around my home; and with a stern delight 
I gazed upon thee. How often on the speech 
Of the half-savage peasant have I hung, 
To hear of rock-crowned heights on which the cloud 
For ever rests; and wilds stupendous swept 
By mightiest storms; of glen, and gorge, and cliff, 
Terrific, beetling o'er the stone-strewed vale; 
And giant masses, by the midnight flash 
Struck from the mountain's hissing brow, and hurled 
Into the foaming torrent; and of forms 
That rose amid the desert, rudely shaped 
By Superstition's hands when time was young; 
And of the dead, the warrior dead, who sleep 
Beneath the hollowed cairn!  My native fields, 
Though peerless, ceased to please.  The flowery vale, 
The breezy hill, the river and the wood,

Lifescapes - 01 - A Song of the Great Mountain

Línia / Pedra / Paisatge / Solc has been finally released by the wonderful Whitelabrecs run by the super talented Harry Towell. You can already listen, purchase and support my latest work based on a very specific landscape.

This special limited edition release is in a run of 100 copies, modeled around the classic gatefold vinyl LP. It includes printed front, rear and inner sleeves featuring photography by myself, along with a card sleeve which houses a printed vinyl-effect CDr.

This is the outcome of my residency at Culla during Fall 2018 and marks the second collaboration with Double Bass player Rafa Ramos Sania. Album has been mastered by Pedro Pina. The whole thing has been possible thanks to Culla, mágica y medieval, Espai Nivi Collblanc, Mariano Poyatos Mora.
