This is the piece that follows the “Free at Last” in this series. It portrays the state of mind as I struggle to live with the death of my father.
The D-C# in the piano line, with which the last piece ends, is recalled from the start of this one, where viola starts with C#-D (minor 9th) motive. This eventually resolves to the motive C#-D# towards the end of the piece.
