Juan Rodriguez wasn’t my blood 
he was my mentor, my OG, my guide when Bushwick was burning from every direction.

Before hashtags.
Before marches got televised.
Before people pretended to care…

There was Juan.
Teaching pride, teaching survival, teaching Black-Brown unity before the world had the words for it.

When they killed him and called it a “mistake,”
that was the first time I picked up a protest sign.
The first time I screamed someone’s name for justice.
The first time I realized zip codes decide fate.

This record is for Juan.
For the marchers.
For Bushwick before the lattes and bike lanes.
