DJ I.V. THREE DECK TECHNO MIX 5 "ELEMENTS"

Me and Ben thought it would be fun to play a long DJ set together at Globus, the upstairs floor at Tresor in Berlin. 
We last played together (as Frequency 7) in May 2013. This time we played a ‘back to back’ DJ set, I’m pretty sure playing 2 tracks each for the whole six and a half hour set. All we had in mind beforehand was to start with some Dub and ‘see where it goes’. 

It was a lot of fun so we wanted to share the recording with you.

Rolando grew up in south west Detroit, a Hispanic district, he was heavily influenced by his cultural Latin rhythms and percussion. Inspired from an early age by his musician father, he pursued his own interest in music and became well known and respected within the community. It was later when he heard Jeff Mills in 1985 as "The Wizard" that he discovered the innovative sounds of Techno. 
Through a mutual friend he was introduced to Mike Banks and joined Underground Resistance in 1994.
In November 2004, Rolando left both Underground Resistance and his Los Hermanos project behind. 
2014 saw Rolando launch his own label R3 ( Roland Rocha Records) and has more or less exclusively released his own music on his label since. Rolando now a Dj for more than thirty–five years continues to work internationally as a Dj , producer and Remixer with an eclectic clientele such as Marcel Dettman, Kraftwerk, D’Julz, Ben Sims, Skudge, A Sagittariun. Rolando continues to hold his residency ( 2006 ) at Berlin club Berghain.

Rolando - Other Side Podcast #09

Perfectly fitting for the summer, this week's lost gem comes from one of the key figures in the "second wave" of Detroit techno. Stacey Pullen is a DJ and producer who helped shape the genre. As one of the most respected artists from Detroit, he learned from the legendary Belleville Three - Derrick May, Juan Atkins, and Kevin Saunderson, who are known for their pioneering role in the genre.

Pullen is well-known for his unique sound that combines techno with parts of house and garage music. He also started his own record label, Blackflag Recordings. Over his career, he has used several other names, including Kosmic Messenger, and has become a true innovator in electronic music.

“Burn Rubber” came straight from real life and a little winter chaos 😅

Over the past few weeks, I’ve been fixing my car piece by piece after dealing with bad tires, slipping and sliding in the snow, fishtailing, spinning out, and having the tires just spin without going anywhere. One night it even fishtailed hard enough that I went the wrong way and ended up over the median… and another time I found myself stuck in a ditch.

Somehow and I still don’t know how I managed to get myself out by backing that ass up 😂 If you know, you know.

After all that, it was clearly time for new tires. Bigger. Stronger. Not the cheap ones.

Once people found out, the jokes started flying, friends, coworkers, even my bosses like, “Uh oh… she’s gonna start burning rubber now.” And that’s exactly where this track was born.

I took those moments and turned them into a dark, heavy, high-energy EDM track with aggressive bass and car sound effects to match the vibe. This one isn’t meant to be serious, it’s meant to feel fast, powerful, and cinematic. The kind of track you’d throw on while gaming, driving, or just needing something that hits hard.

I had fun making this one, I enjoyed the process, and I like how it turned out and that’s what matters most. Turn it up, feel the speed, and enjoy the ride.

Burn Rubber

The fifth episode of the 909 podcast series is from Philadelphia’s born Josh Wink. The label boss of Ovum Recordings always knows how to stay on the fine line between House and Techno. You can definitely hear this in tracks of him like “Dont Laugh” and “Higher state of Consciousness”. It was a pleasure to have Josh Wink back again behind the decks at 909 Festival. Enjoy the first two hours of his set at the 2018 edition.
