When the story of the prodigal son came up, we began to peruse the text from Luke chapter 15 in the Bible. The idea that became most interesting to us as a banner statement made by Jesus, that in his muck and mire the son "came to his senses".

As we ourselves frequently squander the treasure Christ has given us and yet so freely he takes us back into his arms, this song points to the moment in a man's heart when he realizes what he has done and runs home."
