The Superfast XI

There is truly no experience quite like the Superfast XI. As we sat around our luggage at the port and watched the ship come in (at midnight), thousands of cars, people, animals, babies and every manner of cargo began crowding in anticipation. As she docked, there was a mad rush of people to be first on - toddlers getting passed overhead and nonnas shovin nonnos out of the way in order to get the best spot.

The 15hr hour ferry could only be described as a lawless wasteland on water. It looked like a mass murder scene from Final Destination - endless limbs, possessions, animals and people scattered everywhere, passed out from heat, sweat and exhaustion (or on their way).

The ingenuity of humanity was on display as people assembled the most amazing sleeping tech from the random collection of objects they could find aboard. There were seasoned sailors with chairs, benches, tents, hammocks and air mattresses turning into the hottest real estate for one night.

I spent most of that night writing this track. Without intention I wrote the angriest, most carnal beat I've ever produced and I think it’s got a lot to do with the Superfast XI experience.

After a windy, hot, sticky and altogether uncomfortable 1hr of sleep, the sun rose and a beautiful day dawned. At 11am, the previously non-existent staff filled the pool - which until this point had been empty with a net over the top (some brave soldier slept on it). I was first in, washing away the entire evenings sweat, salt and any concerns before returning to the chaos for the final hour of the trip.

Somehow this ended up in the track - the middle liquid section was a happy accident I composed before it happened IRL.

I’ll honestly never forget the Superfast XI. Images of people strewn everywhere on the boat, cry-laughing with friends, dancing at sunrise and that sweet sweet dip in the pool flash in my mind every time I play it.

"Tender Trance" is the long-anticipated debut EP of the production collaboration between @djgigola and @kevkoko , and marks the 5th installment of the Live From Earth Klub imprint (LFEK005). Blending heavy trance synthesizers with broken beats and driving drums, the 3-track-release focuses on different shades of modern trance sound. The EP’s leading track "Papi", adds a layer of DJ Gigola‘s own hazy vocals. "Tender Trance" will be released June 14th 2019 in digital form as well as limited edition of 300 vinyl copies.

Danish duo @lyravalenza (aka Hjalte and Jens Konrad) operates on the outskirts of contemporary electronic dance music. Armed with a playful approach and a patchwork of digital and analogue equipment, Lyra Valenza carved their own space in the Copenhagen scene by genre-blending Jungle, UK Garage, and Footwork into a mix of forward-facing and euphoric dance music for 2020 and beyond. A testament to the duo's unique approach to sound design, they were selected for this year's SHAPE - a platform for innovative music and audiovisual art from Europe.

Lyra Valenza's latest EP, Nightshade Edition, is a package of sweet and dangerous cuts to the taste of dystopian romance. The prime dance floor material hits with metallic percussion and bursts of fluttering synths tuned with just the right amount of trance. From stepping UKG, to lush digital soundscapes, the four breaks heavy tracks are hyper-modern sonic experiments processed through a retrospective haze.

The Nightshade Edition EP is released on Lyra Valenza's own @petrola-80 label. It follows their 2018 debut EP "Scan Deliver" on UK imprint Opal Tapes and comes as a welcome return from the energetic producers.
