Brooklyn-based DJ and producer Ayesha (@aye5ha) lines up a four-track EP with Scuffed Recordings, channelling percussive techno, breaks, and bass.

The Potential Energy EP bears all the hallmarks of the sonic universe that Ayesha has made her own on previous releases for the likes of Fever AM, Kindergarten Records, Control Freak, and Daytimers.

Aptly-named opener ‘Potential Energy’ is a rallying cry for the current moment in dance music, as clubs in parts of the world begin to open and ravers release the pent-up energy of the past eighteen months.

‘Ecstatic Descent’ is up next and lives up to its title with euphoric arpeggios sprinkled liberally over heavy, syncopated breaks.

Third track ‘We Be Bubblin’ encapsulates Ayesha’s approach to sound design and sample selection, with playful bubbling sounds and vocodered vocals dancing over driving percussion.

Ending the EP is ‘Dark Matter’, the fastest and heaviest track of the bunch, which saw its first outing during Yung Singh’s already-legendary Boiler Room set as part of the Daytimers takeover.

For volume 14 of our mix series, we are pleased to present you with one of the Native OG’s, the homie, SASO. Being a pivotal piece in the LA underground, she has made a name for herself as quite the tastemaker and forward thinker. Her style can be characterised by a heavy ghetto breaks vibe with influences of deep, acid, and electro elements. 

As a resident for Native, she has definitely helped shade the direction of the label and events encouraging the rebrand from the housier, minimal sound to the more maximal heavy rave Native you know today.
