Weclome back after a brief hiatus to the Nativecast Mix Series, Volume 23. We are glad to present friend and OG DJ from the city that birthed it all, Chicago, James Lauer. Drawing from early musical influences including Depeche Mode, Nine Inch Nails, Bauhaus, Pink Floyd, David Bowie, New Order, The Cure, Tears For Fears and of course the strange and beautiful music of Kraftwerk.

From his early record buying and house party DJing from before the turn of the current millennium, he has remained dedicated to the art of digging and finding his own flow on the decks refined over the course of hundreds of gigs in Chicago and around the midwest. opportunities to DJ in Detroit, Miami (WMC), San Francisco (Loveparade, Spundae) to International shows in Sydney/Melbourne, Tokyo, London, Mexico (Juarez, Chihuahua), Bulgaria, Serbia. He has also opened for major artists and key luminaries of the craft including Juan Atkins, Ritchie Hawtin, Chris Liebing, Satoshi Tomiie, John Digweed, James Murphy (LCD Soundsystem), and more. 

Re-locating from downtown Chicago to Los Angeles in early 2013, James enjoys the chance to share his love for real house music, detroit inspired techno, electro, ambient, dub and other heady and proper dance music. His dedication to the rich musical roots of Chicago, Detroit, Berlin and beyond can be heard (and felt) in his dynamic vinyl on vinyl (plus digital) DJ sets as well as live performance.


His passion for the music is also extended through to his his ongoing studio efforts and DIY analog-style productions, remixes and collaborations. Lucid Distraction has long developed a passion for electronic music coming from the UK, Chicago, Detroit, and Berlin areas. As a DJ since 2011, he has developed an ear for a very dynamic sound, ever evolving, but still staying true to it’s roots. 

Far from the traditional his style can be characterized as a progressive take on the electro, house, break, ghetto tech, and other genres incorporating driving baselines along with acidic synths and grooving drums. He does not feel tied to just one genre. Lucid can be a bit of a wildcard and jack of all trades with unique and vast vibes surfacing in his releases. 

Deciding to branch out and start realizing his own productions in 2019, he has strayed far from the traditional and 2024 seems to be finding him placement on forward thinking labels throughout the world. He has also started his own electronic music collective, party, and mix series based in Downtown Los Angeles called Native Boundaries.

He has spun legendary LA staples such as Sound Nighclub, The Viper Room, Pattern Bar, Lokels Only, and many more as well as been signed to international labels like Steve Bug's Berlin based Sublease Music, Portugal based Ovelha Trax, Columbia based Bogoture, London based Hyperdome and more.
