The 30 the edition of our DECENNIUM series comes courtesy of fellow FOLD family member; S Ruston.

" @s_ruston (Sophie) lives to blow out parties with sexed up radical sounds, breakbeats, UK bass & rave welded against a Techno framework. As resident of Berlin's notorious femme-forward party collective Lecken and of the Techno basement of a theatrical house party that is Wilde Renate, S Ruston fully flexes the breadth of her DJ expertise and curatorial skills, rudely plowing ahead with ravey intentions that seek to unlock the audience's inhibitions.

Bristol formed S Ruston into hard hot coal. As a young runt, she learned to bark loudly over the dubstep of her butch uncles and her voice grew fierce before taking flight as a nomadic DJ & label owner (One4Ho) which further trained her muscles and mind. Landing in Berlin, where she is now based, she brings her Bristol studies to bear on the ever-expanding sex-positive queer club scene in Berlin and beyond.

With recent solo releases on queer artist platform Suspension and a vocal collaboration for Zebra Katz's forthcoming debut album 'Less is Moor'. In her latest EP Narcosexual, 'The Lecken resident summons a vortex of experiences of addictive desire, advocating a sensuous dance floor in a celebration of breaks and high - rave pounding energy'.

As a DJ, S Ruston has held court at Berghain's Säule, UNFOLD, TrashEra, Buttons, Whole Festival, Pornceptual, HTBX, Warning, Wax Treatment, KILLEKILL, Krake festival, Horoom, Bassiani and THAT televised performance for the Berlin Mauerfall #30 at Brandenburg gate where she served up breakbeat bangers to a 100, 000 strong audience. S Ruston guarantees to channel the collective energies and fluids from the dance floor and deliver a hedonistic, rampageous & euphoric climax."

Since the launch of our close associates FOLD London, Sophie has been a habitual presence, and has also played numerous, unforgettable b2b sets with FOLD co-founder and Natural Selection resident Voicedrone. 

For this exclusive mix for our DECENNIUM series, Sophie gripped us from start to finish with her unrestricted approach and wild transitions in styles, resulting in one of the most ferocious sets of our series so far.

Nene H has made a name for herself with her signature boundary-pushing sound, always exploring different paths on which techno can lead her, be it in productions, live sets or DJ mixes. Her most recent works include the 2020 EP “Standard Deviation” in collaboration with the artist Poly Chain, and a terrific release in March of this year, the EP “Beast” on the French label Possession, featuring the remixes of artists VTSS and Hadone. 
 
It is her “in-your-face” spirit, always taking risks to project her music to the next level, that Nene H has brought today in our 12th podcast episode. The occasion for us to get to know more about her artistic and personal peregrinations.

La Mer

La Mer is an Electronic Music Producer, DJ, Cellist and Composer, based in Tel Aviv. She combines her classical roots with her passion for electronic music and creates her own unique sound. She cherishes the idea that genre isn’t the important part of the music, but the flow and progress.
La Mer is one of De Zee Music’s founding members, a group that emphasises the focus on creative collaboration, rather than genre perfection. They hope to spread the word that genre isn’t the foundation, but the outcome. 

"I support hard work, progress and innovation, and I think the "first" women who achieve certain goals are admirable, but is this the world we deserve? 
Growing up, it was clear that if I'll work hard, I'll achieve what I want, but no one came to me at the age of 12 with an "All the Professions in the World" book and let me choose what I want to do in life. It's easy to forget that this matter has a lot of weight on tracking and social constructionism. I was raised towards "aspiration for excellence", but excellence in what subject? It was clear to me that I'll work hard playing the cello and that I will continue to play the cello and that it would be what I would do in the future. But somehow anything that had to do with creation remained "in the drawer". After all, even when I was a teenager, I loved writing music, and I did, but at no point did I think it was something I could really do. Even though my parents raised me to believe I can do anything, it has nothing to do with it. 

It wasn't until my friend invited me to join him in college for music production studies, only then I realized that it was possible. It was so far away from me. Not only was it an unattainable dream, it just wasn't a dream because I didn't even think of it as a possibility. Up until I started studying and creating, I didn't even know any female composers or producers. So, yes, we broke the glass ceiling, but "go tell" a 12-year-old girl she can do these things when there's no woman to look up to and admire. And no, there's no reason in the world for all women in the world to have to fight tooth and nail to get to the places they want, or at least not more than men have to.

Personally, I'm exhausted of having to prove every time that not only I'm good at what I do, but that I'm the best at it. Because if you're not the best, there are enough men who do the job as well as you do. And they're men."
