This is my first time writing a choral piece, and it's based on a short poem by Langston Hughes.

The calm,

I had Eric Whitacre in mind for most of the chords and harmonic context. I originally intended on writing this for SATB singing so I could sing a bit of it, but unfortunately I'm still sick... and it was better for me to have recruited a legit singer for this project anyway!!

Sooo I want to give a super special thanks to Brian Diamond (aka NautilusTParty) for helping me record for me today! Ahhhh, his voice is so majestic, and he captured the overall feel perfectly! He transformed my SATB piece into this breathtaking TTBB masterpiece <3

This is a solo piano sketch I wrote for #Tunesday: a weekly music challenge in which a short piece must be composed within one week, inspired by a piece of art (prompted within the participants of the challenge).

I wrote this as if it were the score to an short film; each section of the piece is a sort of reaction to the previous. I was hoping to have a less... nebulous structure for the piece, but the exercise is meant to get ideas flowing and experiment. Perhaps I'll have to refine this into something stronger in the near future.

This song was recorded using only the human voice. 

It was also recorded using only the internal microphone of a Macbook Pro.

I got into a really interesting discussion the other day that got me really thinking about the reason that I always tend to ignore the human voice as an instrument in my compositions. 

It brought up some memories that I hadn't really processed before now, and it was really cathartic to identify it. 

So tonight, I decided to just see what I could do using only my voice. I had written this song already, but I wanted to see what it would sound like reinterpreted like this. 

I didn't do any edits for timing, and I kept each part to 2 takes or less.
