A track produced for Naviar Records Haiku Challenge. The piece is in response to the haiku -
so the earth may run
euphoric with light
moonbeam
For the piece I chose a systems approach as my starting point and assigned each letter of the alphabet a musical note (A - G, sharps and flats I added dependent on what key I chose). I felt using every letter would be too much and as haiku are more about amount of syllables, I chose the first letter from each syllable and built a melody around that. I then used the tintinnabulli technique to create a harmony and arranged the piece around variations switching the melody and harmony between violin, viola and cello.

Sevenism is one of the earliest participants in the Haiku challenge and the first artist to publish a solo album with Naviar.

I was instantly enthralled by the first two lines:
so the earth may run
euphoric with light

I had a vision of the piece as a auditory celebration of light and movement.  Using the trusty RTcmix software toolkit (http://www.rtcmix.org), I created layers of synthetic (as opposed to sampled) sounds organized into harmonic fields, textures, ranges, overlapping and transforming over time.

This week's haiku, by sevenism (with the help of AI), inspired this improvisation in C major, played on two instances of LABS (by Spitfire Audio) VST instrument, 'Modular Pianos'. Recorded and mixed in Reaper, with no additional effects.

All the sounds, bar one, are derived from a reading of the haiku. The exception is the Leeds Town Hall Organ which contributed the bass notes. The voice was processed using Tone2's Icarus synthesiser.
