Wasl Album
In Arabic, the word wasl is related to the musical term wasla, which denotes a group of musical works composed on one specific maqam. Wasl Album, hence, is a connection between two different eras and generations, ancient Syrian music before 1950, and our own time.
Wasl Album is a diverse collection of 48 rare musical gems comprising Muwashshahs, Qudud, Dhikr chapters, musical composition, improvised poems, and instrumental taqsims performed by Nawa Band in the form of 7 different classical maqamic wasla's: Yagah, Ushaq, Hijaz, Huzam, Jiharkah, Nahawand, and Nawathar.
All musical compositions presented in the album date back at least the first half of the twentieth century, with some dating back to five hundred years ago. These musical compositions have been forgotten or distorted over the years and were chosen for the album for their artistic beauty and historical value. All of them were thoroughly verified and documented through consulting hundreds of manuscripts and sources in various formats to ensure the most accurate scientific details. Following that, they were recorded (in writing and performance) in their most original forms that have been buried for decades. All of this has been done as a service for Syrian musical history and a step on the way to documenting our great musical heritage.
Our old composers and poets, well-known or obscure, had a great role in inspiring our musical heritage. Today, our interest in documenting their works and bringing them to light, and placing them in the hands of the elite music lovers and musicians, is motivated by the hope of a new musical renaissance that emanates from original artistic foundations, taking off into the future with wings from the past as well as the present.

ألبوم وصل
ترتبط كلمة "وصل" بالمصطلح الموسيقي "وصلة"، والتي تشير إلى مجموعة من الأعمال المؤلفة على "مقام" بعينه، وكذلك ألبوم "وصل" فهو بمثابة اتصال بين حقبتين موسيقيتين مختلفتين، الموسيقى السورية القديمة والملحنين غير المعروفين قبل العام 1950، وزمننا الحالي.
يحوي الألبوم مجموعة نادرة ومتنوعة تضم 48 مؤلفاً من الموشحات، والقدود، وفصول الذكر، والقطع الموسيقية، والقصائد الارتجالية، والتقاسيم الآلية، والتي قامت فرقة نوا بأداءها في وصلات موسيقية مقامية من سبع مقامات كلاسيكية مختلفة وهي: يكاه، عشاق، حجاز، هزام، جهاركاه، نهوند ونوأثر.
يعود تاريخ جميع المؤلفات الموسيقية المقدّمة في الألبوم إلى ما قبل النصف الأوّل من القرن العشرين على الأقل، وعمر بعضها يرجع لما يمتد لخمسمائة عام، وجميعها تم تحريفها على مرّ العقود أو كانت طيّ النسيان. وتم اختيار جميع هذه المؤلفات لجمـالهـا الفنّـي وقـيـمتهــا التـاريخيــةِ، ومن ثم تم تحقيقها وتوثيقها من خلال الإطلاع على عشرات المخطوطات ومئات الوثائق بأشكالها المختلفة وذلك حرصاً على تقديمها بأدق التفاصيل العلمية وتدوينها بشكلها الأصيل (كتابةً وأداءً) والذي كان غائباً لعقود. وقمنا بذلك كلّه خدمة للتأريخ الموسيقي السوري وخطوة على طريق توثيق تراثنا الموسيقي العظيم.
لقد كان للملحِّنين والشعراء  القُدامى، المعروفين منهم والمغمورين، أثــرٌ جليلٌ في إلهام ذاكرتنا الموسيقيـة. وإنّ اهتمامَنـا اليومَ بتوثيق أعمالهـم وإخــراجَها إلى النـور، ووضعِهـا بين أيــدي نُخْبــةِ المستمِعين والموسيقيين، يَحدوهُ الأملُ بنهضةٍ موسيقيةٍ جديدةٍ قائمةٍ على أُسُسٍ فنيّةٍ أصيــلة، تنطلق إلى المستقبل بأجنحةٍ من الماضي والحاضر.

Nawa Band is a band that is concerned with reviving and propagating muwashahat and Qudud of all forms, religious and non-religious, and documenting FUSOOL of inherited DHIKR in Syria after having compared the anciently written scripts with the orally passed down identified ones. Nawa Band performs this heritage worldwide in the most integral and sincere form, preserving its purity and spirituality to the highest level.
The band was formed in Aleppo in 2009 by the musician Ibrahim Muslimani. It gathered an elite group of musicians and performers spurred by passion to perform compositions and FUSOOL from the first half of the 20th century that were either forgotten or misrepresented through time. Nawa selects compositions according to both artistic and historical value, not merely according to ancient relevance, apart from touristic folklore.
The old Syrian composers, both acknowledged and unacknowledged, played a significant role in enriching the musical reminiscence. Our endeavour today is to document and bring their masterpieces back to life and to heartily put them in the hands of the noble audience and musicians. This comes out of a hope to contribute to the rising of a new musical renaissance with genuine and strong roots, a renaissance connecting the present with our glorious past and leading them both to a luminous future.
The name “Nawa” is in line with our musical vision. Nawa is a Maqam name and it is the fifth note in the musical scale. As in the linguistic meaning, (Nawa) stands for the (Core), the distance and destination and the voyage in between. Therefore, by Nawa, we mean a fine art in which the human travels, body and soul, from one status to another and from one level to a higher one, abandoning ghosts and valuing souls. “Every person will harvest what they intended” – this is what Nawa is about.

نــــــــوا فِرْقـــــةٌ تهتــمُّ بإحيـاء ونشْـر المُوَشّحـات والقـدود بنوعَيْهـا: الـدينيّ والـغزَليّ، وتوثيـقِ فُصولٍ من الـذّكر المـتَوارَث في سوريا، وذلك بعد مقارنة الوثائق المدونة قديمــــاً بالمتواتِر الشفهيِّ، لِتـقْديـمها بأقصى أمانةٍ مُمْكِنة، مع المحافظةِ على الرُّوح والفـِطْرة في أداءها.
تأسّست فرقـة "نـــوا" في مدينة حلب عام 2009 بقيادة الفنان إبراهيم مُسلماني، وضمّت ثلّـــةً من الموسيقيين والمنشدين تجمعهم الرغبة في تقديم ألحانٍ وفُصولٍ يعودُ تاريخُها إلى ما قبل النصف الأوّل من القرن العشرين كانت قد نُسِيَت أو حُرِّفتْ عبـــرَ السنين. تخـتار فرقة نوا الألحــانَ حسبَ جمـالهـا الفنّـي وقـيـمتهــا التـاريخيــةِ معــاً، بعيــداً عن الفلكلـــــور السياحي والمستهلك.
كان للملحِّنين السوريين القُدامى، المعروفين منهم والمغمورين، أثــرٌ جليلٌ في إغنـــــاء الـذاكـرة الموسيقيـة. وإن اهتمامَنـا اليومَ بتوثيق أعمالهـم وإخــراجَها إلى النـور، ووضعِهـا بين أيــدي نُخْبــةِ المستمِعين والموسيقيين، يدفعهُ الأملُ بنهضةٍ موسيقيةٍ جديدةٍ قائمةٍ على أُسُسٍ فنيّةٍ أصيــلة، تنطلق إلى المستقبل بأجنحةٍ من الحاضر والماضي…
ويــأتي الاسـم "نـــــوا"منسجمـاً مـع رؤيتنـا المـوسيقيـة، فـكمـا أن "النَّــوى" اســمٌ لمقـــــــامٍ موسيقـي، واسـمٌ للدرجـةِ الخامسةِ في السُّلَّم المـوسيقي، وكمـا أن "النَّـوى" في اللغـة هــــو اللــبُّ، القصـدُ والرّحيـل، وطـرحُ الفضول، فكـذلك نقصـد في "نـــــوا" فنّــاً يَرْحــلُ فيــه الإنسـان بِلبِّـــه وقلبِــه مـن حـــالٍ إلى حـــالٍ، ومـن مقـــامٍ إلى مقـــامٍ أسْمـى، طـارحــاً غبـــارَ الأشبــاحِ، قاصــداً صفـــاءَ الأرواحِ. هـذا، ولـكل امـرئٍ مـا نـوى.
