Premiere: Rafael Da Cruz - Saqqara [DUAT]

Soulfooled's upcoming release 'Venus Rising' hails all the way from Miami. Russian producer Kate Ozz has submerged herself in the sunny club circuit of Florida's most buzzing town, where her fine musical skillset did not go unnoticed by some established players like Solomun and Black Coffee. Kate produced a solid melodic house record with three originals and an Ivory remix.

Title track 'Venus' is a musing track, which heavily leans on rich bass synths. The tune surprises when an agitated, urgent female voice enters the stage.

To add a different perspective to the record, Soulfooled invited Ivory to rework 'Venus'. The Italian DJ has made a good name for himself, having his most recent releases played in almost every set of Dixon or Solomun lately. In Ivory's remix of 'Venus' (90's Revenge) we still hear the voice, but Kate's bass soundscape is gone. Ivory did add a fresh, uplifting key part, which reminds you immediately of a distinctive 90's sound. 'Transformation' builds on the Venuses' energies, kicking off with a rich sound in the low regions. The track evolves towards a characteristic piece with intensive hovering synths that enter and leave the song at their own pace.

Kate's EP 'Venus Rising' closes with 'High Vibrations', is a slow burner, keeping the soundscape fairly minimal. However, the track builds to be a sweet melodic classic to nicely wrap up the record.

Altogether 'Venus Rising' is a strong pack from Soulfooled camp.

MBR435: Tal Fussman - Down & Out EP

Full-on raving days can’t come soon enough, and this EP by Tal Fussman has us craving for infinite underground submersion. The descend begins with 'Extendo'. The Israel-raised and Berlin-based artist alights in electronic rapture, part ambience, part industrial with just the right amount of House to sway gently side to side. Celestial as its strings, there’s still a subtle telluric feel to this track that is much welcomed. Metallic as the last, 'Hunta' takes over with mechanical precision and synthetic clairvoyance. Disruptive modulations are heralded by ethereal chords that feel like heavens clubbing your mind in submission. Reminiscent of magnetic resonance, this is mental imaging and perforation, and with sweeping electro-melodies, its abrupt end leaves you wanting to bask in its eternal lockdown.
Voluptuous percussion and robust bass unwind the title track, as it swells up into a funky, vigorous groove. 'Down & Out' still boasts synthetic elegance but its earthiness flourishes. This track is climactic, and expressive, poised for liberating, orbicular processions on any relenting dancefloor. ‘Are You?’ wraps up the quartet positing a lingering impression and profound questioning through motion. Mental and gritty, marked with vibrating contractions, Tal’s modulations are shrill and pervasive, but with soothing depth, this finale, as is this release, is balanced with crude and ironic optimism.

Our heroes are back in the game with new artists whose sound suits Nazca Records like a glove. On the one hand, Los Suruba proudly presents Thomas Gandey, an artist with international cult status, having released an abundance of electro futurism. On the other hand, Mia Mendi, a duo obsessed with uniting melancholic ambience, loaded drums and modulating melodic leads.
 
These three artists are very similar to our Viracochas, beings of a different world that observe, admire and get inspired by the Nazca, lovers of art, beauty and nature. This time the Viracochas have also become creators. They bring their futuristic energy to summon resilience and progress through sound. 
Thomas Gandey & Mia Mendi have joined forces blessing the presence of The Viracochas by creating 'Paracas', a collaborating EP, which is a three-track record that makes you swing from the past to the future in electronic harmony.

“The Lizard”, a track that comes in hard as a late-night pounding liquid Techno ready to splash the dance floor, “Le Dasma” is a musical story of crescendos, drums, short phrases and new layers of music fabrics that go on and on and finally yet significantly,“Time” is a lush synths & solid drums ready to cement your groove construction that is both sexy and serious.

Nikolina has developed a strong passion for music since she was a child, taking her first piano lesson at the age of seven (and continuing for ten years). She has always been intrigued by non-mainstream styles and artists and started her DJ career in 2012, in Ukraine.

She quickly became one of the most well-known DJs in Kiev, distinguishing herself for her unusual track selection, with a very intense mix of deep house, tech house, indie house, and melodic house.

During her DJ years in Ukraine, Nikolina was a resident at L8, one of the main Clubs in Kiev, and at Mantra Club in Odessa, the top beach destination in the country. She was also responsible for the soundtrack at Kiev’s fashion week and performed many gigs at some of the best bars and clubs in the city, including Vogue Cafe and Fairmont Hotel.

In 2018, Nikolina moved to London, to be at the centre of the European music scene, and quickly built a reputation as an experimental and refined DJ. She is currently a Resident at Playa, was previously a Resident at Hovarda and regularly plays at Cuckoo Club. She has played at Lost in Sound, Nowhere Events and Beats on Toast events and had gigs at some of the best venues in London, including Ministry of Sound, Studio 17 (Blanche London), Opium, MNK House, Blake’s Hotel, Mandrake Hotel and Sunday brunch at Restaurant Ours, alongside highly respected international DJs, such as Audiofly, Satori, Bahrouz, Dorian Craft, Maga, Francesco Mami, Serge Devant, Jean Claude Ades, Birds of Mind, Blondish, Die Vögel.

As a result of her successful gigs in London, in 2019 Nikolina was invited by Pacha to play as one of the headline artists at its top winter event, for a two-week residency at AsitzBräu, over the Austrian Alps, that she helped turn into a “snowy Ibiza”. During the year, Nikolina also performed a number of gigs in Tulum, Portugal, Italy and Georgia.

Nikolina has now also started to produce her own music and is very excited by the project, which is allowing her to experiment with new styles and melodies. Her first track has been released in June 2019 on BE Records.
