Another set besides the radio show? I am on fuego ha ha

So something really interesting happened to me Saturday at the Day Trip Festival's Shoreline stage where I was scheduled to play and open it up. I got there early to make sure everything was working fine only to find out that my main music flash drive was corrupted! Rookie mistake where I didn't check it before I left home, I simply grab it with another one (just in case)and left. Well that other drive I grabbed was not my backup drive but the one that I only keep my Salted Music tracks and promos! Damn first world problems. Either way it worked out pretty good cause the Salted catalogue was perfect for this crowd who just wanted to get their groove on right away. Thank you @saltedmusic and @miguelmigs1 for saving my butt on that day. Also huge thanks to Adam Auburn and Insomniac Events for inviting me to play. I had a blast.

If you are a House Music fan I think you will enjoy this set very much as I had to dig deep into their catalogue from the last few years.

Ricardo Live at The Shoreline Stage / Daytrip

Well, I can certainly say I've stuck to the weekly schedule for the show. A new episode drops and I rarely say this about any of the shows, but this one was one of my favorite to play and record in a while. I mean I love them all but for some reason the tracks in this episode felt like one was inspiring the other one and so on. Lots of new music and if these tracks got me so amp up I just can't wait to play them live in upcoming gigs and make people dance to these grooves. Hopefully it will also put you in a good mood.

Here it is. My full live set from last Saturday's gig at Supernova in Seattle. Prob one of the most fun gigs I've had since the end (in air quotes) of the pandemic. The energy of the heads there was so contagious that it just got me going and I all I could do is dig deeper and deeper to keep everyone on the dance floor (which really wasn't that hard cause they like to get down and boogie). 

Speaking of Seattle, let's not forget my partner in musical crime @ajax-6. He was our guest last week and he played just before me at Supernova and really got the place pumped up. You heard how good his set was last week(EP 260), and he raised that bar even more when he played live. All I had to do was add a little more fuel to the fire he started 

Thank you Seattle and I can't wait to come back to make you dance again. If you were there that night I hope the sets brings you good memories of the good times we had. Enjoy!

You know I really thought this was gonna be the week that I would do something I haven't done in months. That is to miss a week's episode. We are so slam at work that I have been working two weekends in a row (including last week's holiday) non stop.

While listening today to some of the new music I've accumulated in the last few weeks as I worked I just couldn't bring myself to miss an episode. I cranked through to the animations I had to do and got around to record EP-267 before the end of the day. I'm so glad I did cause I needed this to wind down a bit from the craziness.

Here it is. The last NDYD Radio Show for the year. Next weekend is Christmas and the weekend after NYD so the show will be taking a break until 2023. Not to worry though because you will get your money’s worth with EP 281. This episode clock’s in at 3 hours (!) so plenty of new music to keep you grooving til New Year’s when I am planning to return with a best of 2022 episode. Heck, this episode is good to go for your personal NYE House party because it’s pack with feel good Disco. I’m not talking about cheesy Disco that you hear at your friend’s wedding but proper House Disco that takes over you and guides you to the dance floor. This is not a coincidence because after attending the amazing LA performance from Dimitri from Paris last weekend in DTLA I’ve been dying to do a full proper Disco set for the show and that is what EP281 delivers. Amazing modern Disco artists like The Shapeshifters, Louie Vega, Dr Packer, David Morales, my evil twin Mark Brickman, and so many more make an appearance in the last show of the year.  

Another reason why this episode is heavily Disco influenced is because of an event I am playing for on NYD called DISKO BRUNCH here in Hollywood on January 1. I have the honor to share the decks with an amazing roster of artists like Tube & Berger, Colette, Mark London, Big Cee and more. It’s an NYD brunch so there will be food, drinks and DISKO!

I know I said EP-281 was going to be the last episode for 2022 but I have a few days off work, I received some amazing new promos this week, and I just wanted to return to some Deep House after the last long Disco episode and I am definitely finishing the year with a deep dive on this EP-282.  So, for real this time the last episode of 2022. Next one will prob be my live set for the day party gig I am playing at on the 1st of 2023 or my recap of my favorite 2022 tunes of the past year. Maybe the other way around. No matter cause the music won't stop :)

The NDYD Radio Show EP282

The music of West Coast DJ, Ricardo Torres can best be described as a blend of deep, soulful house, and disco inflected with the particular sound of the west coast vibe, sultry and smooth. He plays the music that  heads love to dance to; confident that when the music flows from hands that loves the underground it can be an uplifting, groovy and sexy experience.

Ricardo has been on a quest to achieve that perfect mix ever since his first chance encounter at the turntables, in 1987 at his college radio station in Montreal, Canada. His first 12" records were from the Industrial Electronic Music of that time.  Shortly thereafter in 1988, he was first introduced to House Music. Ricardo quickly changed his direction and followed the early days of Chicago House.  He moved towards this style of music since he found it to have a new and unfamiliar energy within itself.

In 1995 Ricardo, moved to Los Angeles, a city basking in sunrays and radiating the good vibes he himself perpetuated. And here, Ricardo discovered the funky, soulfulness of the west coast sound.  Many of his early heroes such as Jay-J, Marques Wyatt, Julius Papp, Mark Farina, Miguel Migs, and others gave him the desire to gravitate towards this deeper, more soulful West Coast style.

While still a local Los Angeles DJ, Ricardo - inspired by his love for this genre-decided early on in the year 2000 to post his mixes online to share with the world. This was fairly new and innovative at the time. This act of sharing his musical vision without prejudice or limitations caused him to be sought after to play his brand of house music in cities all over the world. He continues to offer up his masterful mixes, as host of syndicated radio shows online as well as on satellite radio in the USA.

Within the recent past Ricardo joined forces with Nu Disco Your Disco out of Germany for representation and affiliation. This modern Nu Disco sound, to him, is the perfect way to bring that West COast vibe into the future and the new generation. Since NDYD has been a pioneer in bringing the Nu Disco genre to the masses in Europe he felt that they would be the perfect partner for doing the same in North America with their established brand. Hence, the syndicated NDYD Radio Show was born.  The show has been on the air for over a year now and besides Ricardo hosting and DJing it every week, some of the best talent in the industry and from all over the planet have been guest DJs and taken over the show. The loyal following keeps growing episode after episode. 

Underground music trends and styles have changed since Ricardo played his first vinyl record all those years ago but what hasn't changed is that he just loves playing music that inspires the heads to get up and dance!
