The NDYD Radio Show EP290 - The DEEP End vol. 3

Obviously the title of this EP gives you a hint of what you will hear in this new episode. The title is not a coincidence though because that is the name of the event in which my buddy, @djdavidbullock, and myself will playing at all night B2B at the super club Exchange in DTLA this Saturday March 26. Our mission on this night is to only play tracks from the 70s and 80s but not the originals - only edits and reinterpretations of those songs. Very much like you will hear in this episode.

The NDYD Radio Show EP292 - The TIME MACHINE episode

We are inching closer and closer to the magic number 300 in terms of episodes. That is a lot of music if you have been following the show since it started in 2016.

Next week, I am taking a break (ie there won't be a show). This is because for the first time in over 5 years I will go to visit my hometown of Montreal to see my family. I'll be gone for 10 days so unless I get my hands on some decks while there this episode (with the other 300 or so before) will have to hold you up for the next two weeks.

Back this week with an episode that is nothing but DEEP. I even dusted off some old vinyl from Jay Denes who was the original label boss of the legendary Naked Music label out of San Francisco. This track by Jay was one of the early releases on Naked Music back in 2002 with a young talented singer at the time that you might recognize ;) Her sultry and familiar voice hasn't changed since those days and this was before she blew up in the scene and became a staple of this label. Let's see if you can guess who that is as this Denes' classic closes this show.

Did you think I would go play at a festival without my recorder? NEVER! Here is my set from the Junkyard stage at Lighting in a Bottle. I had to opportunity to play on the closing day of the festival and I had an absolute blast. Thank you to @patricio_la, who will be a guest soon on the show, and the Do Lab crew for having me grace the decks.

The NDYD Radio Show EP299 - Ricardo live from LIB - May 28, 2023

Holy sh** we've surpassed 300 episodes! FIrst thing first, a huge thank you to NDYD label boss @krissantiago for blessing us last week with that milestone episode. It kind set the bar for the next episodes with that proper dance floor feel. EP-301 tries to continue with the tone that Kris set and keeps you on the dance floor - or dancing while you clean your house, or driving, or working, or whatever it is you are doing and need some motivation. Plenty of new fire that aims at making you groove.

This episode is also a preview of next weekend where I have the opportunity to return to the shoreline stage at the Day Trip festival in Long Beach. I will be sharing the stage with two of my closest friends @djdavidbullock and @jask-thaisoul. Also on the lineup is one of my favorite producers and DJ - @mr-v-official. The festival is sold out so if you got tickets consider yourself lucky.

Next week, while I'm in Long Beach, we have a returning artist who is one of the OG guest we had on the program 7 years ago (EP-80). I heard his current set and I promise it will be a treat that continues this ready for the dance floor trend.

The NDYD Radio Show EP301

If you thought there was no NDYD Show this week well, surprise surprise. My very good friend and brotha from anotha @jask-thaisoul, that I hadn't seen since the pandemic, just happened to be in LA this past weekend because he was playing at the Day Trip Festival in Long Beach (so was I, but more on that later).  After he killed at the festival he decided to stay in town for a couple of more days and as usual I had the honor to  host him at my place. So what happens when you get Jask and RT together after all this time? A B2B of course! 

As soon as we were back from the festival and got to my place we took out our thumb drives, turned on my gear and wing it. I am very happy with the result and am so glad that nothing has changed. We still vibe together just like we always have for all these years. 

If you been following the show from the early days you know that Jask has been a guest many times and this is not the first B2B we've done together. The tribute mix we did for Depeche Mode a few years ago is one of the most popular and replayed special sets on here. Did you hope to hear some rare DM bootlegs this time? I promise that you won't be disappointed (and a bunch of other unreleased gems).

As I was saying, I also had the opportunity to play at this festival and that set was also recorded (imagine that)and I will put it up next week.

The NDYD Radio Show EP302 RICARDO vs JASK 2023

I-AM-BACK.

After taking two weeks off from the show, to give room to the amazing guests artists that were scheduled, I am back in my element. A huge thank you to the talented Justin Paul (@justinpaul) and Mario Dubbz (@mariodubbz)for taking control of the turntables while I was out. They are both OG veterans of the show and this was not their first NDYD rodeo.

I was itching to play again and bring you back to the underground. I think EP305 achieves that by bordering that Deep Garage vibe that is dance floor ready. I hope you feel that way when you hit play :)

So, we never left the underground that EP-305 took us into last week. The sun is about to rise and those who still have the energy (and those who took those pills earlier) are still here dancing. The groove got a little darker, even a little tribal but it's just perfect when you close your eyes and let that bassline drive you. 

As that classic line at the end of the movie 'Groove' says while our heroes are leaving the underground at 6am:

guy: "so, what you want to do now?"

girl: "let's go to the End Up"

The NDYD Radio Show EP306

Back this week with a brand new episode that is hot off the presses. It was nice last week to go back to those vinyl days (and more are coming) but it's also nice to live in the present and this episode is full of 'presents'. 

EP308 grabs you right away with a beautiful collaboration from people I consider more family than just friends, Lisa Shaw and the Groove Junkies. A sexy Afro influenced track called 'Touch One Soul' which certainly did to mine. That first track raised the bar high but the rest of the music is able to keep up with fire like a new track by my favorite M&M pair - Miguel Migs and Meshell Ndegeocello and a new Sandi Rivera track that literally floored me when I first heard it - or I passed out cause it's that good :)

The NDYD Radio Show EP309

The music of West Coast DJ, Ricardo Torres can best be described as a blend of deep, soulful house, and disco inflected with the particular sound of the west coast vibe, sultry and smooth. He plays the music that  heads love to dance to; confident that when the music flows from hands that loves the underground it can be an uplifting, groovy and sexy experience.

Ricardo has been on a quest to achieve that perfect mix ever since his first chance encounter at the turntables, in 1987 at his college radio station in Montreal, Canada. His first 12" records were from the Industrial Electronic Music of that time.  Shortly thereafter in 1988, he was first introduced to House Music. Ricardo quickly changed his direction and followed the early days of Chicago House.  He moved towards this style of music since he found it to have a new and unfamiliar energy within itself.

In 1995 Ricardo, moved to Los Angeles, a city basking in sunrays and radiating the good vibes he himself perpetuated. And here, Ricardo discovered the funky, soulfulness of the west coast sound.  Many of his early heroes such as Jay-J, Marques Wyatt, Julius Papp, Mark Farina, Miguel Migs, and others gave him the desire to gravitate towards this deeper, more soulful West Coast style.

While still a local Los Angeles DJ, Ricardo - inspired by his love for this genre-decided early on in the year 2000 to post his mixes online to share with the world. This was fairly new and innovative at the time. This act of sharing his musical vision without prejudice or limitations caused him to be sought after to play his brand of house music in cities all over the world. He continues to offer up his masterful mixes, as host of syndicated radio shows online as well as on satellite radio in the USA.

Within the recent past Ricardo joined forces with Nu Disco Your Disco out of Germany for representation and affiliation. This modern Nu Disco sound, to him, is the perfect way to bring that West COast vibe into the future and the new generation. Since NDYD has been a pioneer in bringing the Nu Disco genre to the masses in Europe he felt that they would be the perfect partner for doing the same in North America with their established brand. Hence, the syndicated NDYD Radio Show was born.  The show has been on the air for over a year now and besides Ricardo hosting and DJing it every week, some of the best talent in the industry and from all over the planet have been guest DJs and taken over the show. The loyal following keeps growing episode after episode. 

Underground music trends and styles have changed since Ricardo played his first vinyl record all those years ago but what hasn't changed is that he just loves playing music that inspires the heads to get up and dance!
